Describe the issue

My Samsung The Sero “smart” tv is listed as a network device in Roon (via Airplay2) and I am able to enable it. AirPlay gives a passcode and the tv connects, but does not play any music and the tv keeps regenerating passcodes, which I cannot enter anymore in Roon. I can see a signal path, but only the first time I fill in the passcode and press play, but no sound and the signal path (data) disappears.
This should be a known problem, as I found many references to this unsolved problem. (User: Jörgen Winther, Alan_Tuszynski, Svein-Ole_Sorensen, Andres_Roepke etc.)

@S_Schorr, can you add The Sero to the Apple Home application? This may help resolve some issues with Roon and AirPlay devices. For example, I needed to add my KEF LSX (v1) speakers to Apple Home, after which AirPlay and Roon worked correctly. Same for my LG TV.

@Robert-F Dear Robert, thank you for your suggestion, but what is the Apple home application? For your information, other then an iPad that I only (want to) use for Roon, I have no other Apple hardware.

It’s Apple‘s „smart home“ app. One of the things it can control are AirPlay devices, and there are some known cases where adding a device to Apple Home makes it work with Roon as described here:

The app is probably installed by default on your Apple device, else you can find it here on the App Store:

Dear Suedkiez, thank you for your suggestions. I read all the Roon help center and faq stuff and the relevant things I could find on the forum before posting. In the mean time found out what the Apple home application is (was not installed on my device) To keep it short, doesn’t work for me.

Hi @S_Schorr,

Thank you for your post. The team has pulled diagnostic logging from the affected RoonServer instance and identified a pattern of Airplay Setup failures for which we have an existing ticket with Development.

We’ll share the case notes to include the Samsung The Sero TV among the list of affected devices, and we’ll post here if there are updates to share from the engineering team. Thank you!
