Schiit Modi+ vs Cambridge DacMagic switching bitrates

New to posting on this forum. My current DAC is a Schiit Modi. I have noticed that when it switches bit rates, a loud pop incurs. From what I understand, this is a normal part of the Modi+. However, my other half and dog are not very fond of this popping sound when a song changes.

I am considering a Cambridge DACMagic to try and resolve the popping issue. Does anyone know if the Cambridge will make the popping sound as well? My goal is to have no popping when songs switch without having to spend thousands on a new DAC. Would the Cambridge work, or is there another affordable, nice sounding DAC that would mute switching bit rates between songs?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Schiit Bifrost, Gungnir, and Yggdrasil DACs have a muting relay to help prevent this. The most you would here is a clicking sound (muting relay, mechanically, from the chassis). Can’t find anything that says that the Modi+ has this muting relay. You might try emailing Schiit and asking them?

DacMagic 200M owner here. I’ve never heard it clicking or popping. And I am using it all the time in combination with my CXN V2 streamer in the living room.

Per Schiit the Modi+ does not have a muting relay (to help keep costs down). Thanks for your info on the other DAC’s in their lineup!

You could also stop the popping by upsampling all material to the same bit rate/depth via Roon‘s sample rate conversion facility.
