Search Doesn't "find" an artist

Hi - anyone else experiencing this or similar?

I have an artist “Fink” with 21 albums/singles in my local library
If I search for fink - it doesn’t appear in the results (initial popup or “more”)

If I search for an album name it appears and I can then use the link to the artist

I’m using the macOS and iOS apps with a macOS Server

Search is very mysterious. Fink works for me (though I don’t have anything in the library). @zenit, something for you?

Hi - Thanks - do you have Tidal or Qobuzz via room? I wonder if that has an impact - might try

I have both, yes

strange… (maybe) If I add my Tidal service the search for “fink” works and then shows my
local items

Interesting but I doubt this is how it should be

its a"feature"

It’s definitely an issue with library-only searches. I’ve moved the thread to support.
Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Hi @oobaa,

Thanks for taking the time to write in!

To confirm, are you still experiencing this issue on the latest Roon update? If so, can you please reproduce the issue, share the search term, date and time, and our team will enable diagnostics to take a fresh look?

In the meantime, can you confirm that the artists in your local library are all properly identified in Roon? One way you can review this is:

  1. Navigate to ‘My Tracks’
  2. Use the focus filter ‘Identified’
  3. Click the ‘+’ to reverse the filter, showing you any unidentified tracks

We’ll be on standby for your reply. Thanks!

Hi Benjamin - thanks for getting back to me

Yes - the problem is still occurring
Search term: “fink”
Date: 30/07/2024
Time: 09:02 BST

I do have a number of unidentified tracks/albums that I’m slowly working my way through correcting
The Artist “Fink” does not appear in the “unidentified tracks” filter

Cheers - Peter

Hi @oobaa,
Thank you for providing the timestamp. I reviewed your logs for this time and found this trace

Trace: [music/searchindex] LibrarySearchTotal Query 'fink': 106ms. IsCancelled: False. CandidateCounts: Album Count 50, Track Count 50, Work Count 50, Performer Count 66, Composer Count 14, Genre Count 9, Label Count 12

and then further down this trace

Trace: [music/searchindex] LibrarySearchTotal Query 'fink har': 66ms. IsCancelled: False. CandidateCounts: Album Count 2, Track Count 32, Work Count 0, Performer Count 0, Composer Count 0, Genre Count 0, Label Count 0

So what these traces say is that it found 50 albums for “fink” but 0 albums for “fink har”. If you run a search just for “fink” do you still not get any results?

Hi
If I search for “fink” the results don’t include “fink” as below (even if I expand the results using “more”:

If I search for “fink har” I get the below that includes the album “fink hard believer”

Hope that helps - the searches were done around 06:06 BST 3rd August
Thanks for your help
Peter

a bit more information that might assist…

  1. “fink*” where “*” is any character other than a space, finds the artist “Fink” successfully
  2. “[asterisk]fink” where “Asterisk” is any character other than a space, finds the artist “Fink” successfully

Example searches were done around 09:08 BST 3rd August 2024

Cheers
