Search engine kind of senile?

Navigating the whole stuff after almost 1 year of use is still frustrating and challenging. The search engine - pretty dumb.

I am not a classical expert by any means, but I guess it would help Roon Labs if you pointed out an album or composition that you would expect to be found.

Was that a typo? I thought there were 6 Bach sonatas for violin and piano. So if you replace the 8 with 6 for example you will get better results. You are probably looking for piano versions but in general with Bach if you search on keyboard or harpsichord you will get even better results.

I am in two minds what roon should do with typos or ambiguous searches. It’s probably something that should be configurable whether you want an error message or a fuzzy search. On balance I would probably go for the fuzzy search on typo’s if I can get results like this from searching on “Beethoven Symphony No. 50”. Has anyone checked out Symphony No. 10 (completed by artificial intelligence)?

Thanks. Not being a classical listener (but able to use Google and Wikipedia  ) I was attempting to gently point this out while allowing for the possibility of me being totally wrong.

Hey @Ioan_Octavian,

Thanks for taking the time to write in and share your report! Sorry to hear search has been difficult for you. Certainly, let us know if @tripleCrotchet’s comment above is correct - was there a typo in your OP?

Either way, if you could, reproduce the issue with the specific date and time, and name of track playing if applicable? From there, our team will enable diagnostics for your Roon Server to take a closer look.

We’ll be on standby for your reply. Thanks! :raised_hands:

It’s possible the OP meant a different Bach. CPE Bach instead of JS Bach. There were 8 violin sonatas by CPE Bach although I’m not that familiar and not sure it is common to number them that way. I couldn’t get a sensible result for a search on CPE Bach Violin Sonata No. 8 regardless what I typed if that is what the OP meant.

The irony lol

Yeah, it was an error in my search string. Sorry for that.

Out of interest why even use search there are far better tools . in your example the Composition screen would have done the job . I find search far too wide , it’s searching Tidal 100 million tracks to find a few specifically named Bach Compositions

In that case we will mark this thread as solved unless you have had other search issues.
