Describe the issue

This has been a long-standing issue since the 2.0 update was released. Whenever you search for the artist "Seal," the artist's name disappears in the search results (searching with "seal," "Seal," "sea," or "Sea"). For instance, typing in "Se" shows Seal in the results, but not for the correct spelling of his name. I felt inclined to report this bug now after I had enough with misspelling the name every time.

Once again somewhat strange behavior by search. Seal is my top result, a bunch of his albums are listed as well, and I don’t even have an album by him in the library (just a single appearance on an album by Jay-Z and Kanye)

Do you have Tidal or Qobuz enabled? I do not use streaming services and have over 21 of his albums lol

I love how I am still restricted from replying normally (bc of the whole search engine petition before Samsung bought Roon out) and have to wait for a moderator to accept my replies. My apologies if the reply time is slow.

Both Tidal and Qobuz

That might make sense.

If you have 21 albums in your local library, I still think he should come up in search

In the image he does not locally without streaming services enabled.

You should listen to his early material, including his album Human Beings which is more of an ultimate fan favorite. Amazing music, courtesy of Seal and Trevor Horn.

I do not have Tidal or Qobuz and “seal” or “Seal” shows up for me when doing a search. Although I only have one album… it is interesting looking at the other albums and artists that show up… hhmmm

That is really weird, there is nothing else wrong with Roon and everything else works, just this search is weird and I wonder if it is due to having many albums from him?

How old is your system? Could your DB or cfg files be getting bloated/borked (technical term there, LoL)?
Try cleaning up the library (settings/library), clearing the image cache (settings/setup).
Where is your server running? If on ROCK or Nucleus, you could try going to the WebUi and reinstalling the OS (NOT resetting). It will “refresh” the OS, it does not affect your DB.

Not sure if there is a way to do this on a server running on PC/MAC other than removing and then re-installing. You would have to make sure you have a good DB back-up for this.

Hi @Ethan_S ,

Can you try to perform the search again and let us know the exact local time + date you try to do this? We can enable diagnostics mode after, I’d be curious to see if there are any errors displayed in the logging.

Did the search many times from 11:03:10 p.m. EDT to 11:04:30 p.m. EDT

I have an engineering/tech background so I know what you mean lol. My DB/cfg files are probably bloated with rubbish/broken code from previous updates and DB backups but that is something I was going to clean up another time. My library and image cache are clean. My server runs on MacOS and has the latest updates.

Hi @Ethan_S,

Thank you for the timestamp. We can see the event in diagnostics - there’s no error presented, so we’re escalating to Devs. Stand by and we’ll follow up as soon as we know more.

Thank you.

Wait I am really confused, the new update on the search engine for processing symbols must of fixed the issue. I just tried searching for seal and now his name comes up for the first time in years :joy:. However, if I do the opposite of what I did before to get it working, such as typing Se or Sea, seal does not show up as an artist. It is only if I type Seal or seal.

If I type S, Roon starts finding everything that starts with S.
If I type Se, Roon starts finding everything that starts with Se.
If I type Sea, the list starts getting short enough that I see Seal, among others.
If I type Seal, Roon brings up Seal.

That’s how it works.
