After seeing that the new 2.70 update runs search faster but maintains the logic, I was playing around with it and now am curious as to how things are ranked. For example, if I type “ar” I would hope Ariana Grande, one of my favorited artists on the platform, highly listened to and I imagine a highly streamed artist does not appear, but Arcade Fire and Arctic Monkeys do (I have albums in my library but not them as a favorite). Also, things I haven’t listened to and I imagine are streamed much less than Ariana Grande appear before she ever does. Anything below Brothers in Arms are things I have never interacted with.
Can someone fill me in on how this works and why this would happen? Also, wouldn’t it make more sense if the bolded text are the matching characters I search and not the other way around in the results?
Right now, how much you listen to an artist or how much you interact with them doesn’t influence the ranking at all unfortunately, although that is planned to be added in future releases. If you have something in your library or especially setting an artist/album/track as a favorite should influence it. Do you get Ariana Grande as the top result when you set her as the favorite?
About the highlighting - there’s both variants in the industry, and in some cases there’s no highlighting at all. The argument for this is that highlighting text that you already entered in the box doesn’t provide you with new information. I’ll bring it up to our UI designers for discussion, I can see arguments for changing it here too.
Hi, she has been a favorite as long as I have had Roon and the results were as I posted above. Brothers in Arms is the only other favorite in that list on my original post.
