Security Nucleus on internal network

Dear all,

I noticed that there is no security at all contacting the Nucleus one from the network. With guests using the network too. Just a Web browser and the ip address will let you change, or by accident ruin your server.
Is nobody worried about this, or did I forget some security setting?

Please let me know.

Regards Menno

Nope there is no security setting as you are asking about. There are several Feature Requests about this, you might go and add your vote to one of them.

Thank you, then I have to arrange some security on router level in combination with a special ssid for guests.

You could also do a lot of damage from any Roon remote, surely?

Thats why one of my first feature request was a locked down guest profile.

This should really be standard practice if you have visitors using your wi-fi.

I have a guest Wi-Fi on a separate VLAN which can only access the internet and has no access to any other areas of my network.

Dear Graeme,

You are absolutely right. But not all home Internet routers (from your Internet provider) have options to route guests directly to the Internet. And most users are not familiar in configuring a router.
Manty people will buy a Nucleus because it’s plug and play. So you expect some security settings to protect it.
Happily I know how to do it and happily I have Ubiquiti AP’s. So don’t worry.
But with my Internet home router I couldn’t manage this.

Best regards,
Menno

Sorry, I haven’t used an ISP router for years. Ubiquiti UDM-Pro and APs in my network.

With a Ubiquiti setup, I’d never trust a Nucleus to provide its own security, even if it were capable.

Best to keep guests away from the core of your network. You never know what malware may be hiding on their devices.

Many people don’t even run so much as a basic anti-virus on their mobile devices…
