Hi, I really enjoy Roon’s loudness normalization feature which targets -14 Lufs.
Doing some elementary computations with my dac output level, amplifier gain and headphone sensitivity I’ve figured out that together with loudness normalization enabled I’ll be listening to exactly 80 db k-weighed average volume if I set the total system volume to -29,5 db ensuring I don’t damage my hearing ![]()
However both my dac and my amp have their highest signal-to-noise ratio at output levels close to 0dbfs.
Therefore when listening to an album that Roon calculates needs -7 dB to get to -14 lufs I would prefer to apply 0 negative digital gain and instead reduce my amplifier volume by 7 dB.
Currently I then need to enable volume normalization to see how much negative gain Roon applies, then switch it off again and input that same value on my amplifier.
It would very much make my life easier if I could check an album or songs normalization gain (or just average k-weighed loudness) by checking info, just like how Roon already automatically calculates dynamic range for local files for example.
