I’d love to simplify this setup and, where possible, improve overall sound quality at the same time.
The FiiO K17 caught my eye as an all-in-one replacement for the Wiim, DAC, and amp, but it’s quite large and has more features than I need (EQ, multiple outputs/inputs, etc.).
What other options should I consider? Ideally looking for a desktop DAC/amp that is Roon Ready, cleanly integrates with my setup, and pairs well with the HD-800s.
Also — is there a maintained list of Roon Ready desktop headphone DAC/amps anywhere?
You could start by looking in the “partners” page for a brand you like? https://roon.app/en/partners
Then on the brand page there are devices listed and what their status is (Roon tested, Roon Ready, etc). Not sure how “maintained” it is…YMMV
It looks like there’s quite a bit of information in the database, but having to click through every partner is laborious. It would be better for Roon to surface the information through a search, so I could say, “Show me all Roon Ready DACs.”
I don’t think you can improve SQ over your current setup other than trying other headphones as a matter of preference. The SMSL and THX-789 are exceptionally engineered and measure thusly. Any all-in-one (I have the Matrix mini-i Pro 4 with Dan Clark Ether 2s, for instance) will likely be indistinguishable SQ-wise, but they all measure slightly less ethereally than your current setup.

Right now the Astell and Kern ACRO CA1000T is on sale and meets your needs, also has the ability to use tubes or not. I almost bought one but I have so much audio stuff already. However, ASR had some strange issues with an AK Dap (the Max I think), but may not apply to the CA1000T. I never had issues with my SR35 and I’ve had it for a long time and use it all the time.
