Sense-checking potential Rock hardware

Hi,

Longtime Roon user, been running it on an old but reliable Windows PC for years, love it - trouble is I can no longer ignore the pc fans!

So, I’m pretty sold on switching to a dedicated NUC running Rock, but before I purchase the components please may I sense-check them with you knowledgable folk? Here’s what I’m considering:

  • Intel BOXNUC8I7BEH3 NUC Mini PC
(Intel Core i7 8559U, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655, Bare-bone)

  • Crucial CT8G4SFS824A 8 GB Memory (DDR4, 2400 MT/s, PC4-19200, Single Rank x8, SODIMM, 260-Pin)

  • BiWIN 128GB M.2 NGFF Solid State Drive SSD 22 * 42mm SATAIII Storage NAND Memory for Laptops and Mini PC [BIWIN-128GB]

Does anybody use any of the above components? From my understanding they should be fine for Rock? I’m hoping for a quieter system, I realise it’s not fanless though, is anyone else running Rock on the same cpu?

Cheers,
Rafi

FYI my music setup:

  • Music Source (local): 40k tracks stored on Synology DS1513+ NAS (mostly flac 16bit & 24 bit from 44.1 - 192khz, and a few dozen DSD 128 & 256)
  • Music Source (stream): Tidal through roon
  • DAC: Oppo 105-D + Audioquest jitterbug usb
  • Pre: Audiolab 8000S
  • Power: Audiolab 8000p
  • Speakers 1: Monitor Audio Silver RS1 (bi-amped to 8000p)
  • Speakers 2: Q Acoustics 3020 (8000s when set to integrated mode)
  • Speakers 3: Yamaha HS5 & HS8S (direct from the Oppo’s XLR output)
(If you’re wondering, I switch between speaker types depending on the genre/production style I’m listening to. Sometimes I use a Schiit Loki between the Audiolabs)

That should work fine. Akasa makes a fanless case for NuC’s.
