Separate library search and Tidal catalog search

Searching your own library (including albums added from Tidal) and searching the Tidal catalog are two different use cases, two different scenarios. Unifying them as Roon does is a conceptual mistake that results in a bad user experience.

I search my library to find and play an album I have. It’s really what Roon does in “Focus” (the funnel icon top left in “Albums”).

I search Tidal to learn about new music, artists, and albums. I don’t want to see “main albums” and “appearances” and “productions” in my library, and then, finally, after much scrolling, the Tidal catalog albums, excluding the ones in my library. What I want to see are all the albums for that artist in the Tidal catalog, right off, without any scrolling, and without excluding the ones I already have (though marking them somehow would be nice).

When you search a music catalog you want to get an objective picture of artists and their work, not some kind of projection into your library.

I think separating the Tidal catalog search from the library search would improve the experience of exploring new music dramatically.

Agreed. I dislike the fact that when searching for my music Tidal also comes up. Would disabling tidal help with this?

Yes, if you disable Tidal in services it will not search Tidal. And none of your Tidal music will be available either.

I’d buy into that.
The possibility to Separate the search into own library and „online content“ is definitely a needed feature for the future.
I permanently struggle with the search as it is today. Like ran_rinat said also the displayed content should Fokus on albums.

@ support: is there any workaround for todays release with a special filtering possible?

After you have done a search, there is a little library icon in the top right hand corner of the results. Click that and the search results get restricted to those in your library, There is also a “filter” option. Does that help?

That’s not exactly what they are after. They want it to bring search results for local content and streaming content separately , which you can’t do with search, you can only achieve that if it’s in your Roon library in albums and using focus. Search brings it all to the table library or not. If you added albums from Tidal or Qobuz they are in your ibrary and will show up.

So best way of finding just your own music is to not use search at all and but use Album view and create a focus for local music and save that as bookmark then use the filter to find what you want. Or just don’t add anything to your library at all from services. Which defeats one of Roons USP it’s seem less integration to allow you to add then as they where your own and curate them.
