Server Exits when I exit roon app on the same machine

New problem as of today. Worked fine for months

Server is NUC i7
Roon server won’t start by itself
But if I run the roon app the server starts with it and all is fine
Only then can my iPhone see the running server
When I exit roon app on the NUC the server also exits
and the iPhone can’t find the server

In task manager I can see when sever starts and stops

Do you have roonserver installed or Roon ?

Okay, seems you’re running Windows.

It also seems that you must’ve changed something yourself, because what you say can’t have worked as you say.

If you’ve got only Roon (with GUI) installed, then music will of course stop when you terminate the application - that’s a fact.

If you want Roon server without GUI, you need to download and install Roon server.

Then, if you want a GUI on the same PC, that you can start and stop at your discretion without the currently paying queue stopping, you need regular Roon installed in parallel as well.

I have both installed on my pc. My only end point is a Bluesound Node in another room (connected with cat 6 cable)

When I originally installed the server, it would start and never exits unless I shutdown the pc.

When my iphone couldn’t find core, I looked at the windows task manager and core wasn’t running.

That’s when I saw it start when I tried to use the app on the pc.

Now the server starts only when I start the app and exits if I stop the app.

Sorry for the long winded story. But I have no idea what has changed.

I thought about removing everything and reinstalling. But I think I’ll then lose my library playlists and whatever

I,m an idiot!,

What was the issue?

Then something is wrong. Running both at the same time works and what I’ve done for 8 years. You install server and then install roon connecting to the server.

Puts less stress on an all-in-one system…

So I guess I’ll do the old uninstall and reinstall trick. How do I keep my library?

I only have a few playlists, but I don’t want to lose all of the Qobuz albums in my library

You shouldn’t need to uninstall anything.

The issue may have arisen with the latest build of RoonServer. There have been reports that when RoonServer updates to this build, it stops working. This looks as though it happened to you, so you downloaded Roon (not RoonServer) and then Roon appeared to work. However, now the Roon Core being used was not the Core in RoonServer, but the new Core in Roon.

What you need to do is download RoonServer from the Roon Labs download page and reinstall it and run it. This should get it working again.

Then go to Settings > General and press the Disconnect button on your current Roon Core (which will be the Core in Roon). Then you should see both Cores show up for you to choose and connect to the Core in your RoonServer.

All your playlists should still be available and your Qobuz albums get synced to all Cores that are being used, so you should be good to go.

Maybe look for Roon server app in your start menu first, and if available start that, then do the disconnect full Roon core, reconnect Roon server core, and you should be okay.
Then, in the task bar, locate the Roon server logo, right click and activate start up on system start.
From there on, things should be as you were used to …

Thanx a bunch

That worked really well.

I killed the roon app and then unstalled it.
Had a copy of roonserverinstall.exe on the machine
used it to reinstall and all is well.

Thanx again.

This is a great support group

Imho, it is time the downloads page have some indicators to keep scrolling down for more downloads
