I have a short break from work coming up, and having received suggestions to separate my MacBook, running core, from the DAC, I am keen to experiment with one of the alternatives. The allo devices (Digione and US Bridge) have been recommended by some of you. And both are affordable for an experiment of this sort.
However, there is nothing on the Allo web page that provides anything by way of know-how on how to set these things up. Can anyone who has these things please tell me / us how exactly the set up works?
Again, the solution I seek is: MacBook Air connected to the home network via ethernet in one room. An Allo device with ethernet feeding either to the USB or coax inputs of the DAC which is connected to the integrated amp.
Either order you device(s) from Allo with dietpi installed and enable roonbridge through the menus. If you just use the digione you could install Ropieee but Ropieee won’t work on the sparky based USBridge.
Pardon my utter ignorance sir. If I were to get this thing with dietpi, is the installation simple please? What exactly does one need to do? Are there instructions anywhere that you know of please? Thank you.
Yes. I think I have it now. Looks straightforward enough. Just a little initial setup with an external monitor and keyboard. Just one more question please. Between the DigiOne and the USBridge which enables better sound? On balance would you recommend the spdif interface?
Honesty I can’t answer that for you. There are simply too many variables. Suffice to say I have both and am happy with either. The digione offers more s/w options being based on RPi rather than Sparky which is hampered by its old kernel.
Also I don’t bother with an external keyboard or monitor. I just ssh in, much less faffing about.
I also own, and enjoy, both ALLO products -but recommend the DigiOne with DietPi pre-installed as a simpler turn-key appliance for you. You might want to choose their metal case over the standard plastic option to ensure that it will run cool for better performance and reliability.
