· I'm noticing slowness when using the Roon App or Roon ARC
Describe the issue
The lag on selecting a song, an album, anything is ridiculously slow.
My system is high end and it is embarrassingly let down by the Roon software.
I have ultra fast FTTP and speeds on other apps are normal.
This is seriously spoiling my musical enjoyment. I would like a walk through to troubleshoot. I don’t want to be blinded by technicalities.
I have recently upgraded components so the issue does not sit with the hardware.
Streaming wise I use Innuos Statement through Innuos Phoenix Net and high end Ethernet cabling. The speed of the components is not the issue
I have had this latency issue for some time but it’s getting worse
Please help
Describe your network setup
Router Netgear Orbi, RBR850, wifi 6, firmware version v7.2.6.31 Innuos Phoenix Net Ethernet from Orbi to Innuous Phoenix Net Ethernet from that to Innuos Statement
Please keep in mind that Innuos products are underpowered and do not meet the minimum specifications to work properly with Roon, they have this as a note on their website towards the bottom here:
Innuos Servers hardware specifications do not meet recommendations provided by Roon – you can check them here – especially with regards to CPU.
With that said, if you can please let us know the exact local time + date + tack when you next observe this behavior, we can look into diagnostics to see if there’s anything else that jumps out, or if this is a general performance issue due to the hardware.
Hi Noris. Thanks for your speedy feedback. I will put the hifi on this evening and note the time etc. I cannot believe such a high-end product as the Statement would have such lag. I am hopeful there is another reason that can address the problem
We were able to review a fresh diagnostic report of your Roon Server machine and see some errors in relation to your local library. As a next step could you:
Temporarily disable your local library, and only rely on streaming content from Tidal - and let us know how performance feels.
I use a Innuos Zen mini mk1 (10 years old?) and it’s been pretty bullet proof as a server running Roon.
In the past few weeks however there’s been a lot of hanging, skipping tracks mid way through and losing of the list of audio outputs mid song. I’m sure it’s totally unconnected to the release of the new Nucleus but it is pushing me in that direction…
Roon RAAT protocol has minimal buffering other services buffer much more so stuttering and dropouts are less. So it does not rule out network, indeed in indicates network deficiencies,
You can disable your local library by going to Roon settings → Storage and clicking the three dot menu next to your watched folder(s) and clicking disable in the menu.
Then go to Roon settings → Library and click “Clean Up Library”. In the menu that pops up check the box next to “Clean up x files that are Associated with disabled Storage locations” and click “Clean Up Library”
Fyi. I mentioned the other day that I started using Innuos Sense the other day without any issues. I reverted to using Innuos as the Roon Core the day after and the latency issues had improved dramatically (before library clean up)
You can look at performance maybe. I used the system around 4.30pm yesterday until about 6pm
Hoping that off / on routine coupled with the library clean up will lead to sustainable improvements
Looking over your Statement logs, it looks like there is a lot of analysis going on still. I suggest trying to disable or throttle background and on-demand analysis to see if it helps:
