Showing (off) your Roon setup - description and photos [2015-04 .. 2021-03]

Thanks Terry,

That looks amazing! You have done a great job putting that together - wish I could hear it!

Yes, I thought it was humidity that they cannot cope with

Hong Kong is regularly 90%+ in the summer

These panels were originals when I bought them circa 1987

They behaved perfectly until we moved from the UK to South Africa in 1996. The original failure was 1997-98 , then we moved to sea level for 7 years the problem recurred when we moved back to JHB

It may well be the dryness, it’s not uncommon to get shocks off door handles etc in winter, it simply doesn’t rain for 6 months

I think the info about high altitude came from Quad in Huntingdon directly when I had the original problems

my office listening setup:

macbook air roon client
schiit modi dac
schiit loki tone-control
line magnetic 210 integrated amplifier
klipsch rp600m loudspeakers
a mix of cables from wireworld, spatial audio, straightwire
breezy meadows long haired german shepherd woofer

in the near future i’ll swap out the modi for the schiit gungnir multibit dac which i have on order from the crazy (i mean wonderful) people at schiit. (i’m already using their yggdrasil in my main system.)

i also have a pair of omega super alnico high output xrs speakers on order, but the 600m’s really are surprisingly good on the music i listen to in my office. the high-res version of coltrane and johnny hartman is mesmerizing!

Terry,

I’m trying to sus out what you’re doing here. Are you connecting your streamer/DAC to the AES input in the Three? You pictured the Kii Control but it looks like there is only one component plugged into it. I thought that if you connect the Kii Control it disables the inputs on the speakers.

I guess I have a very different signal path. I’m streaming to an UltraRendu connected to the Kii Control which is my only input into the Threes. I’m using a Pangea Premier XL USB cable for the rendu, a CAT7 cable to connect the Kii Control to one Three and the supplied ethernet cable to connect the Threes together. My setup is no way as sophisticated as yours, but it sounds wonderful.

Are the Sony wired and wireless, I always thought they were Bluetooth

Yes, they are both wired and wireless (bluetooth). I am surprised how good they sound using bluetooth connection to my iPhone 11 Pro Max.

They are my list but I fought shy as I thought they were only Bluetooth

Xmas is coming

I’ve got the Sony XB900, for the price they are really good, far better than my AirPod pro’s with my iPhone and instantly connect if I use Bluetooth.

Don’t match my wired headphones but good for mobile listening where your not using a full hifi setup.

I’ve got a pair of Bluetooth Sony’s for mobile and bedtime listening as they’re easy to pair to Roon on the phone. With a bit of DSP, they sound very good indeed over Bluetooth. I no longer worry about DAC and nice headphones unless I’m going away for more than three days.

The bad thing about the Sony’s over AirPods is you can put your head on one side and go to sleep

I always sleep on my back but waking up to noise cancelling can be seriously disconcerting…

I wall mounted my diffusers and added some back LEDs - can get some freaky combos going

With the Hue on red and the Govee LED strips behind the diffusers set to ‘Fire’ the latter scroll through red/orange/yellow - such fun :star_struck:
