Showing (off) your Roon setup - description and photos [2015 - 2021-03]

Just set up my Nuc tonight. I was having some stability issues with my laptop acting as a Core the last few weeks.

Current Setup

Nuc 8i5BEH with a 256gb Western Digital ssd, 4gb of crucial ram and 3tb external HDD connected
Raspberry Pi4 running Ropiee XL with hifi berry digi + pro
Cambridge Audio CXA 80
Monitor Audio Silver 100 speakers

What’s the make and model of the cat?

It’s only the iPad Pro 12.9, it’s a pixel count limitation

It’s a long standing feature request. There was a strong hint that landscape/portrait is coming in 1.8 but don’t hold your breath

Roon’s release policy asphyxiated the breath holders months back. I just checked and this bit of kit is still working fine

Pocket rocket wx14tom

It’s been quite the journey. Apple Music during the day. Roon in the evenings. I guess I’m down to the bare essentials now.

Feels good. Sounds good. More music. Less noise.

(Roon and HomePods can be fun – I wrote a little bit about it here).

Interesting…may I ask how the Ortho remotes work in your system and what you can/can’t do with them? For example, can you use them to control Roon playing on any of the endpoints, or perhaps just those using Airplay?

The ortho’s are connected by bluetooth as a HID device – they control the local device they’ve been paired to. In this case, it’s an iPhone masquerading as Roon zone.

Very cool @Hilton_Kelly!

can i ask where you got or how did you program the stream deck for roon?

Playing around with some “new” NOS tubes that just showed up, as well as the 6SN7 tube adapters to use them in the Freya+…

Raytheon/Baldwin 12AU7’s on the left, GE 6CG7 on the right. I also have a pair of GE 6FQ7’s, which are identical to the 6CG7, but the 6CG7 utilizes a shield between the two plates.

Stream Deck is just a product from Elgato. Ordered online from a local retailer.
There’s a 6 button, 15 button and 32 button version. (this one is 15)

I installed the Roon “actions” from the Elgato actions repository which will connect to Roon as a Roon Extension when you configure it.

In the Elgato designer, drag and drop the various Roon actions onto the buttons and then connect each action to the Roon Core via IP/port and then set the output device you want the action to apply to.

I’ve setup 3 different pages (profiles) with actions for each of 3 main Roon end points and navigation between them and my main home page on the stream deck.

The 3 buttons across top in centre call up a different profile for each end point and far top left returns to my home page. Its about 30mins work and not difficult. No programming or custom stuff required. Just download and install the apps and drag and drop the actions and set IP/Port and connect to Roon Core.

Updated Roon page with active zone (active zone the controller is commanding)

Yes, it’s a function of the style of relay-switched stepped attenuator that they utilize.
