Entry for the cheapskate endpoint of the year. I’ve been doing some clearing out of old bits and bobs and came across an old Raspberry Pi, can’t remember exactly which one, probably a B+, but from before the current full size header became standard. It has a HiFi Berry Digi+ board which I didn’t want to part with but is not compatible with newer Pi boards. This is an old 32bit processor but quite up to the task of streaming audio, just too old for Ropieee or similar. Then I came across piCorePlayer to turn it into a Squeeze end point. With a cheap wifi dongle this is happy streaming Roon over s/pdif at 24/192 to my Quad Vena 2. Extra points for the professional enclosure
Managed to get a pair of Lyngdorf SDA-2400 power amps for an utter bargain price
Rewired the 4x10”s into a pair of 2x10”s, effectively giving three 2x10s each side
Top two pairs have a ‘2400 each, bottom pair are fed by the original TDAi-2200; crossed over at 40hz max
So, with the ‘3400 powering the Focal Diablos, I have 800w into each channel @ 8ohm or 1600w into each @ 4ohm - when not listening I can weld stuff, Ho Ho
I rarely listen above 78dB, but having soooooo much bass capability enhances the entire playback; top to bottom, soundstage, everything. Plus the low end heft is simply wonderful
With only the ‘2200, the bass was really good, but having the extra power really makes a difference
I was inspired by the REL Reference stacks, the IRS V’s and the Vivid Audio Moya M1 (which has an interesting story about why and how having loads of bass drivers improves the sound)
I have two 18" subs and they provide more than enough bass for my room, but I’ve always had the feeling that extra subs would improve the overall sound. The interview with Dickie about the Moya proved I was right. I reckon you’ve done the right thing.
It’s not easy integrating subs, but once you’ve got it working, it’s sooo good.
Thanks, yes when I got my first Lyngdorf amp 15+ years ago, the rep said ‘get the bass right, and everything thing else will fall into place’ (or similar)
The Lyngdorf amps allow you to set crossover points and slopes, amp delay and main to sub distance delay
You can then use the room correction to finish the job
My bad, I did take delivery of the Sasha V’s and forgot to upload a few photos. I’ve been dialing them in for a week and finally got them sounding really good! My dealer set them up, but he recommended I break them in and start making any adjustments if I needed to.
Thanks! The bass traps are from Acoustic Science Corp. (ASC). I bought plant stands to sit them in because I didn’t like the way they looked sitting directly on the floor.
Nice! do you have a separate stereo setup on the long side of wall there too?
Of course it is possible for one home theatre to sound amazing but I am mostly interested in 2 separate setups (separate home theatre and separate stereo) in one room
Thanks.
No, I don’t, but I do have two separate speaker setups. One for stereo with the Elac Vela (without a subwoofer) and a second for Atmos music and movies. My Yamaha receiver is quite easy to configure for that.
