Nice work… I love Rockwool! ![]()
Super interesting. Thanks for sharing!
Independent of anything regarding sound reproduction (which is good too), I have always thought McIntosh equipment is some of the most attractive equipment. To me, they are like 1960s Jaguar E-Types–simply beautiful to look at.
Thanks for your interest Gary I really appreciate your comment! I’ve always been a big fan of mcintosh components they’re built like tanks! The mc462 power amp as recently been in for a service as I’m the second owner but this unit was released in 2010, the technician who serviced the amplifier told me it just needed a good clean inside, 16 years a quick clean and she’s still going strong ![]()

You’d need to ask @PixelPopper
Nice work Mike. Very well done. Congrats!
@garym and @Leon_snell
My understanding is that one of McIntosh‘s reasons for success is that they were paid a fee for many years by Apple for use of the name. It gave them some cash flow that other amplifier makers didn’t have.
They aren’t spelled the same..
Very interesting I never knew this!
I always thought this was a myth. But I have no evidence one way or the other. Heck, Apple Corp (record company) wasn’t even completely successful in going after Apple Computer for use of the “Apple” name.
@Anti.Static correct. But still paid. Have a look at the story I attached above. ![]()

Here is my furniture setup for in-rotation CDs and records.
The CD holder is a separate shelf that just happens to fit on top of the record stand. Both came down to me from my late folks, who had a knack for finding such things. They used the stand for note taking under a wall-mounted phone, and they stored telephone books inside. (Remember those?) I re-built and lightly refinished it – it’s all original, except that the base of the tip-out shelf was attached with worn leather straps. Very likely, the years of heavy phone books took their toll. I cut strips from the backs of leather work gloves (which had worn-out fingertips) to do that repair. The two-layer cardboard spacer is what we used to call in the Peace Corps “a locally appropriate solution.” The cut-out hole prevents damage to albums from the the handle bolt head.
Hi, sorry to get back to you this late, I wasn’t monitoring the thread. The answer is yes and no. I can’t really make up my mind to which I prefer. I started with a full Dirac calibration but then I replaced cables and changed the switch. As it is today, I’ve been using with it with Dirac off. But it’s not really fair to say this is my favourite as I haven’t run a new calibration file.
