As a sequel to the Bowie thread started by @RobOK, what is your favourite opening track of an album? Thinking only of Bowie, it would have to be 5 Years, the first yardstick of my love for music - but Bowie aside, most influential side 1, track 1 ?
I’ll go for this:
Both good choices there.
5 years was the first Bowie song I ever remember hearing and always sticks with me .
I have to say for me it has to be the gentle intro to Telegraph Road on Live over Gold . That and Private investigations are such a good side of an album (no one else has to agree)
In the Rock Genre. Gypsy Uriah Heep from Very Eavy Very Umble
That set the pace and is a song they have played live throughout their career
Track one, Album one.
Off the top of my head, which means it must have deeper significance…
Has to be …
Great idea for a thread.
IMHO this is hands down the best opening track ever in rock music. Such punch and energy, and the solo is immense (BTW it sounds fantastic in this 24/96 version). Quite the way to announce yourselves to the world.
Agreed, good thread idea.
There’s obviously thousands to choose from. Here are 3 that’s always impressed me:
The opening synth notes and you know…
1st day of Spring and this always wants me to get the old MGB out and cruise the highway top down
My favourite slow-burn melodic opener
This is pretty good too … you just can’t resist turning up the volume!
yep, another landmark track 1
I wasn’t aware there was another option for Side 1 / Track 1 than Gimme Shelter?
For myself.
Nightmare on the Nightmare album by Avenged Sevenfold.
Still my favorite hard rock album of all time.!
Which is quite a statement I know but that’s just how I feel about this album.
Yes. Yes I am sitting comfortably.
A blast from the past. Still listen to this album often.
Excellent thread and some great choices above.
Too many to choose from, but the gentle sadness of Luka Bloom’s opener on The Acoustic Motorbike always gives me pause.
