Going to be a bit contrary here: On Pat Metheney’s First Circle, in reaction to kind of album sequencing prevalent at the time—DJs would often only listen to the first cut of new releases and discard the whole album if they didn’t like what they heard— Metheney had his group record a kind of atonal oom pah-pah/marching band track called Forward March as the lead track. Just to sweeten things, the band played instruments that they did not really play.

When they toured to support the album they marched on stage playing it live.

The track still gives me a giggle.

And the rest of the album is, as usual, wonderful.
