Signal path and radio channel description mismatch?

hi @BrianW I understood you curate the stations in roon. I have the attached, that I don’t udnerstand. WHen playing what is described as a 192kbps for this station ROON only decodes it as 128kbps - would you be able to tell what that mismatch is, please?

MP3 bitrate can be variable (depending on the content, so if there is silence it becomes lower, for instance). If I play this DR P1 192 kbps stream, the kbps in the signal path changes every few seconds and sometimes is below and sometimes above 128. If I play the 128 kbps stream, it’s even lower and sometimes is just 54. Whether variable bitrate (VBR) encoding is used depends on the encoding on the sender side.

It looks as though the rate has changed since the URL was originally added. I have re-analysed the URL and it is indeed now 128 - and will display so in Roon now.

Edit. There is a higher bit rate stream - an HLS one - unfortunately Roon doesn’t deal with it correctly and plays it an hour behind. Roon is aware and a fix will appear sometime. When it does, I’ll add the higher rate strem.

But it keeps changing for me. I guess it’s probably 128 VBR and averages out to 128. (While the one that’s labeled 128 may actually be 64 VBR)

thank - appreciated. I note most of the other streams from that provider, DR, Danmarks Radio also show up wrongly - they have a few, from P1 to P8 I think. They have a good customer support, so I’ll ask them if there is a higher quality res stream available - I know when using their app, the streams are higher res, so the question is if they have those made avaiable out side too..

I’ve updated all old 192k streams to show as 128k now.

Regarding higher Res HLS streams - note what I said above - Roon does not play these correctly at the moment.
