Describe the issue

The loading and playback performance in Roon has become unacceptable.
Songs take an extremely long time to start, and in many cases there is no response at all. This issue has been ongoing for the past two months. Nothing in my setup has changed. I stream exclusively through Tidal.

I have invested significant time and money trying to diagnose this problem—upgrading my NUC, case, linear power supply, network components, cables, and power filtering. None of these improvements have resolved the issue.

If Roon continues in this direction, you will lose a substantial number of customers. I am not the only one experiencing severe performance problems. The community I am part of—over 100 users—is already actively looking for alternatives because they are equally frustrated. Many have opened support tickets, and none of these issues have been resolved.

This needs to be addressed immediately.

If Roon keeps on going like this, you are going to loose a lot customers. Cause it not only me that is expereincing bad Roon experience. I think the communitie am in is already looking for other option Cause they also are sick of the preformance. AM not talking about a few people.. talking about 100 plus only from my comminutie. Al say thet made a ticket like this and it is unresolved. Hope this is going to be resolved ASAP

Describe your network setup

Network - Modem -> Mircotic switch -> Fibercable -> Meraki switch - > Streamer ( AQ Diamond ethernet cable )

NuC on linier PSU, Meraki and Mircotic switch onliniar PSU, modem on a iFi Elite PSU.

So much money and roon cant even load an album with in 45 seconds.

If you think am sour about this.. you bet ya!

Hello @Tom_Harskamp ,

Thanks for reaching out to our support.

We are sorry to see that you have this problem.

We have checked the diagnostics report from your machine and it does not look to us like your internet speed could be a reason of this problem.

Could you please share with us a time stamp when doe this problem happen ?

Please clarify exactly when the problem happens the time when you did press the “Play” button and when it actually started playing.

Thanks.

It started bout 6 weeks ago. When i log in to roon core via the app, PC mostly sometime tablet or my phone. It take a long time to go to Tidal end load the home page of it. When pick a play list hit play it can take on to 1 minute that the play list or album starts to play.

Hey @Tom_Harskamp,

Thanks for the additional information! Based on the information you’ve provided, it does seem to fall into the known issue our team is currently working on.

We don’t have any additional troubleshooting steps to share, as this is a known issue being worked on. The best thing to do for the time being is to reboot your server daily, or however long before performance starts to degrade again.

We realize this is less than ideal, so we very much appreciate your ongoing patience here. Thank you! :raising_hands:

@benjamin I’ve been experiencing Roon sluggishness over time and shared some observations in the TInkering category. I posted there to discuss and learn from more experienced Roon users. After reading your comment above, I may be barking up the wrong tree, since the dev team is working on a known issue (my issue too?).

I know you and your colleagues are very busy in Support. Would you be willing to spare a few minutes to review Memory under pressure: your experiences with Roon garbage collection? Confirmation (or not) that what I describe is part of the known issue being work on would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

May we ask a few things about your more concrete situation?

  • How large is your library (number of titles)?
  • Is it only about local files or also about streamed ones from e.g. TIDAL or Qobuz?
  • In case of local files, are they on an internal or external drive?
  • In case you haven’t done any manual editing of metadata, make a backup of your library and rebuild it completely from scratch.
  • Is the scheduled background library optimization/maintenance feature enabled? You may turn it off for a while.
  • What NUC model do you actually have? I assume it’s not a roon nucleus, right?
  • NUCs are usually fanless and may go into throttled mode in case temperatures are getting too high. This may affect performance hugely.
  • Therefore, please check that your NUC is surrounded by enough free space/air. In addition check the ventilation areas at the case for dust or obstacles. Free them from dust.
  • How large is your library (number of titles)?
    Zero, only stream

  • Is it only about local files or also about streamed ones from e.g. TIDAL or Qobuz?
    Tidal only

  • In case of local files, are they on an internal or external drive?

    No need

  • Is the scheduled background library optimization/maintenance feature enabled? You may turn it off for a while.
    Zero clue what yoy mean

  • What NUC model do you actually have? I assume it’s not a roon nucleus, right?
    NUC6i3SYK

Got an Akasa case, NUC doesnt even get warm

It has more then enough room, Guessing not reading my post. Nothing changed in setup. Just Roon being slow.

@Tom_Harskamp ,

from your reply we can see that you did not try to manage the background work on your Roon Server.

May we please ask you to go to the Settings of Roon → Library and scroll down to the bottom and set settings as following:

Let us know please if it makes any changes to you.

Thanks.

Thank you, I set up they way you showed me.

But for now since the update and some resets. Roon is responding nicely not as fast as before. But almost as good and fast enough am content with it. Hope end of april the update will even beter it.
