Singxer SU-2 Roon-Configuration for AES/EBU

Hello SU-2 users,

I’ve been using an SU-2 as a USB bridge for my Violectric (V590 MKII with ESS-Chip) for a few days now, and I’m a bit unsure about how to configure the device within Roon. I’m only using the AES/EBU output. Should I set the maximum bitrate in Roon to 24 bits, or leave it at 32 bits? Thanks for your help

Best regards,

Dominik

The choice between 24 and 32 for bitdepth probably doesn’t matter provided the device works with both. Usually, devices that can’t cope with 32 bits just quietly drop the least significant bits.

24 bits give a total dynamic range of 144dB in theory whlst 32 bits gives a theoritical dynamic range of 192dB. Both of these are beyond your ability to hear, and, more importantly, almost certainly beyond the ability of the analogue electronics to reproduce.

If your V590 (via the SU-2) is connected directly to your Roon Server via USB or if it is connected via another device by wired ethernet, I would just leave it as it is.

If using a Wifi connected device, then I would reduce it to 24 bit maximum in order to reduce the bit rate (by 25%) and thus make it less likely that WiFi limitations will interfere.
