Siri commands are not working (ref#4AW49H) [Investigating]

When I began using ARC, shortly after its debut, Siri worked at least a decent percent of the time from the car. The success rate, however, has been steadily dropping. Now, it’s close to zero. Sometimes, the results are comically off. Other times, it will at least get the right artist or will select a track with some tangential resemblance to my command. Are the errors a function of Siri or ARC or of both?

Before ARC, I would store hundreds of gigabytes of my music on my iPhone and use Siri to play music from Apple’s Music app. And it worked around 90 percent of the time.

I realize that Siri has been deteriorating for some time, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it were the culprit. It’s amazing, though, how tasks once routine have become nearly impossible as our technology rockets upward.

Good day @Andrew_Stein !

Thank you for your report!

We have raised an internal task for our team to check this issue out and we’ll keep you posted on the progress.

Stay Tuned!

Regards.

Hi @Andrew_Stein,

We’ll need a little more information to take effective action here. Can you please provide the name of the head unit you use in the car (if it’s an OEM unit that came with the car, you can provide the make/model of car)?

Additionally, if you can provide an approximate timestamp and the voice command you used when Siri conspicuously failed, that would be immensely helpful for our QA team as they work to illuminate the scope of the issue:

For example, “Siri, play ‘Please, Please, Please’ by James Brown” at ~11:15am EST”

Thank you!

Hi @Andrew_Stein,

We wanted to ping this thread to ensure you’d seen our response above. Our developers have requested a little more context in order to take action on this report.

We’ll keep an eye out for your response. Thanks!

Hi. It’s a 2022 BMW 740i with the built-in head unit. I will issue some commands when I pull over so I can record the date, the time, and the commands. Thank you.

Hi @Andrew_Stein,

When we last investigated Siri discrepancies you’d encountered, we noticed that unexpected content would often play when the actual local library track file matching your verbal Siri request had been in multi-channel format.

We had a hypothesis that non-stereo content could trigger a playback failure, resulting in a Roon Radio-based track transition. ARC/Siri would interpret a command for Donnie Hathaway, ARC would identify a non-stereo version of the track, attempt to play it, and fail, and a related track would then play.

Is a significant portion of your library in surround/multi-channel?

Can you reproduce this issue if you try to select a Qobuz (not local library) track using Siri?

We’ll watch for your response. Thank you again for bringing this item to our team’s attention.

We’re going to remove the auto-close timer from this thread so you have a little more time to investigate, @Andrew_Stein. I’ve noticed our previous threads regarding this issue keep getting cut off.

Hi @Andrew_Stein,

The team is busy investigating this issue. Thank you again for your patience.

If you have a chance to answer some of the clarifying questions from my previous post, it will help expedite the team’s efforts to pinpoint the problem.

Thanks!
