I wish a solution for me would be as simple as moving router or extender closer. Thanks for the input
My observation is this is dependent on geographic region and ISP. Qobuz works better for some users, while Tidal works better for some others users, and most people do not experience a persistent problem with either.
Ok thanks for the input. I’ll try quoboz Again to see if is better for me regarding skipping, etc. as a first step. Fortunately it not an extreme situation, but annoying when it happens.
Unrelated question. I heard Spotify is ramping up lossless service. how does that work with the LUMIN? Spotify connect? Any degradation in sq using Spotify connect from lumin? Not available in my to me yet but I’ve always liked Spotify and unfortunately Spotify doesn’t seem to care about roon.
Since Lumin already support official (not reverse engineered open source) Spotify Connect, we plan to have Spotify HiFi lossless supported as well. You will get the best quality via Lumin Spotify Connect because we bypass the Spotify DSP such as Spotify volume normalization and we always get the highest bitrate. Unlike the Spotify official apps or web player, we do not even present an option for you to select a lower than the best bitrate.
Lumin already handles lo-res extremely well - I’m constantly amazed at how good iTunes AAC files sound on my T2 - hi-res sounds better in general, but a well mastered AAC album can still blow you away. Whether you want to live your life in the Spotify universe will depend on whether you want your listening experience to be determined by someone else through the all-pervasive playlist thing. I, personally have no use for that, so as long as Roon and Tidal continue to co-exist that is where I will be residing.
Qobuz acting similar to tidal. Tried all three versions of album below. For some reason for me this album has trouble and a good testing source. Maybe I’ll try to download it and see?
I’m not sure if I have missed the result of local MQA file playback - please state the result.
the message and link was a little confusing. is that something that might help me fix my issues? looked like some sample music in various formats to sample?
Agree, I imported my itunes library with plans to replace with tidal versions, but am finding they sound pretty good and a lot of my collection is not on Tidal.
Please download stereo MQA files available from here:
Import them to your Roon. Make sure you play them locally, not Tidal.
If this stutters you have a problem with your local network.
Ok I’ll check it out. Thanks
I do plan to check out the downloads maybe over the weekend that you were suggesting however I think I’m gonna move forward and try new router system … Costco had these 2+ the Orby for $500… any guidance on a reliable router would be appreciated. I have about 3,500 sqft on three levels to cover.
New modem and router with standard setup no DNS change yet and off to great start. The test album is playing as it should. This past week has be a bad one for me and roon, lots off skipping tracks, short dropouts, etc. new gear is looking like the solution
Just to close this out for future readers. Updating router and modem was the fix for me. After several hours of listening during peak internet times I have not had a single hiccup. ISP supplied gear is most likely not good enough. This was not a tidal or qobuz issue it was hardware related.
