Slow file transfer to NucleusOne SSD via Finder (ref#0H8UQV)

Describe the issue

I'm copying my music files on to the internal storage of a NucleusOne - having previously used my Mac as a Roon core. The files are on a USB external drive. Dropping the files on to the Roon app interface copies them, but into a series of separate folders. Using finder, I can copy files directly but it's very slow. Is there a way to copy files to the Nucleus SSD if the USB drive is directly attached to the Nucleus? I want to preserve the file structure of my existing music library (on the master drive and backups) in the Roon SSD.

Describe your network setup

Broadband-supplier branded router, Netgear switches, Mac Mini computer. NucleusOne attached to same switch as computer. Music library currently on USB drive attached to computer. Other backup drives (USB and NAS) complete setup.

No on the USB drive directly attached to the Nucleus. Copy/paste or drag/drop from another computer through the network using Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder is the way to go. At least I think it Finder, not a Mac user.

It can take awhile depending on your Network, Size of the library, the speed of the computer originating the copy, and the speed of USB connection (USB-A vs USB-C vs Lightning etc.).

It has been awhile but I think the copy took 3-4 hours initially when I upgraded the internal storage in my Nuc from 2TB to 4TB.

Hey @Robert_Wood1,

Thanks for writing in and welcome to the community!

All correct things from @Mike_LC! We agree with the above statements, let us know if you have any additional questions. :+1:

Thanks for your reply! My music library is about 1TB, and it’s taking days to copy from the USB drive to the Nucleus via my Mac Mini. TBH I didn’t think there was a way to copy from the USB drive if directly attached to the Nucleus. (Maybe scope here for a future version of the software??).

I’m resigned to being patient while the files transfer!

No - no additional questions, thank you. I’d just like to add that I love Roon :grinning:

Hey @Robert_Wood1,

Thanks for the follow-up! We’re not seeing your Nucleus showing up on our servers at all, would it be possible for you to please use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon Server logs from your Nucleus to our File Uploader?

From there, we can take a closer look under the hood to see what might be going on, as your timeline does feel long. :raised_hands:
