Description of Issue

Skipping between albums is very slow at the moment. It doesn’t matter if the album is on Tidal or my SSD, it takes maybe 20-30 seconds to start the music after I select a new album. This also occurs if songs are lined up in the queue. If a new album must play, it takes a very long time before the music actually starts.

Roon remote on my iPad is slow on multiple actions. Whether it be showing the artist bio, album artwork, composer, etc, etc, etc. It all takes up a long time to get displayed.

My feeling is this is an issue of the last few weeks. I did not change anything in my hardware setup.

I would restart everything Mac and network devices including the router.

Roon doesn’t recommend Apple Networking setups for the record either.

Hey @Percival,

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing these issues… :pensive:. Thanks for letting us know.

As @wizardofoz has said, we recommend against using the Apple Airport Extreme, as well as the Express with Roon - the details about this can be found here.

However, this does not meant that it cannot be used with Roon. Restarting everything and resetting your network devices can help, exactly as @wizardofoz mentioned (thx )

Thanks both for the answers. I never realized before that the AirPort Extreme wasn’t recommended. What’s behind it? Age or something else? Anyway, I guess I have to invest in my network the next year.

Hi @Percival, in our experience they tend to not be reliable networking gear. We’ve had a number of folks have issues that were stemming from the use of this equipment. They’ve also been discontinued for a bit and are on the older side. Newer gear, especially mesh setups for bigger places, tends to work pretty well. I definitely recommend checking out our Networking Guide if you haven’t already!
