· I have a Roon ARC issue not related to connecting to to the server
Describe the issue
It takes 10 seconds to bring up Queue in Roon Arc. The problem is also in normal Roon app on my home network, buts it’s «faster» here, around 5-6 seconds.
Does not matter it’s many or just a couple of songs in the Queue.
This started a couple of versions back, not sure exactly which one.
Even though the issue appears when viewing the Queue, the queue data is still loaded from the Roon Server, so network stability and latency do matter — also when you are on your home network.
Could you please check the following:
Is there any difference in queue loading time when:
Connected to your home Wi-Fi
Connected to mobile data
Connected to a different Wi-Fi / network (if possible)
This will help us determine whether the slowdown is related to network transport or local database performance.
Since your server is running on a Synology DS920+, the database should ideally be stored on an SSD volume. If the Roon database is located on the HDD storage pool, it can significantly slow down queue rendering.
Please confirm:
Is your Roon database stored on SSD or HDD on the NAS?
Thanks for the reply,
I have my server on Synology 920+ using HDD for the database. However, I have been using this setup for a good 2 year now, no changes and previously the queue have been quick
When im inside my home network it takes about 3 seconds and outside using mobile data (Roon Arc) it takes a good 10 seconds.
I only have one wifi network setup at home.
When im inside I mainly use iphone/ipad as controller
Edit: at home it takes about 3 seconds, it’s mainly in Roon Arc that it’s unreasonably long.
Thanks for confirming that info. An HDD will significantly slow down the speed of Roon, so it is possible that it could be the root cause of this behavior. With that said, can you please confirm:
Do all zones have this issue, or just one/some of the zones? Queues are zone-dependent so knowing if another zone has this issue would be a good data point.
If you temporarily try to host the Roon Server on another machine, does the same issue happen? This can help us rule out some networking aspects.
If you clear out the queue and only load certain types of content (streaming / local), is there any pattern to the type of content that triggers the slowness?
I understand that SSD is faster than HDD, but it makes no sense that it should be the issue here. I have been running Roon Server on this Synology NAS for 2-3 years and there was never any issue with queue, the library are moderate and very slowly increasing. Something have happened with the software in one of the latest updates.
I tested some more this afternoon,
Roon Arc (away from home, connected to work wifi or 5G) is by far the slowest, atleast 10 seconds to bring up Queue. This was instant before.
Regular Roon app inside my home,
On MacBook the Queue is almost instant, no lag.
Iphone 15 Pro - Lag for about 5 seconds
Ipad - Lag for about 5 seconds
There is no difference in the lag if its only local/streaming or mix.
There is no difference between the zones, same lag on all.
