Slow UI navigation speed on any remote (Mac, iPhone, iPad, etc.). Opening an album can take up to 15 seconds at times.
Describe your network setup
Nucleus is connected to an unmanaged gigabit switch, which is connected to our fiber router. No modem (fiber comes in directly through a 5G receiver on the side of the building). Super simple home network setup. Multiple remotes all connected via wifi (5GHz, same SSID).
Thanks for taking the time to share your report! It’s good to see you on community again, although I’m sorry it’s an issue that prompted the recent post.
I see from your account that you potentially have around ~20k tidal tracks synced to your account, if you make a fresh backup, and then temporarily disable your Tidal sync, do you still run into dips in performance?
Let me know the results - we’ll be monitoring for your reply. Thank you!
Thanks both of you for the input - after trying all suggestions, homepage population has marginally improved, but specifically opening albums and/or an artist page (and waiting for their discography to populate for example) takes an excruciatingly long time to open. 15-20 seconds.
Can you remote diagnose my system and/or check the logs? I’ve double checked my router settings, there’s no throttling of any kind, no QoS or traffic priority nonsense implemented. Non-Roon internal network traffic is super fast, and I don’t have any network-resource-hogging devices or processes pulling bandwidth.
Will check the RAM shortly; I’m only hosting a couple thousand tracks on the nucleus locally; most listening streams from Tidal and Qobuz. Disabling / re-enabling Tidal sync marginally improved Roon’s landing home page loading time, but as stated above, Artist pages load very slowly. I do have a recent db backup; perhaps the next step is to wipe / rebuild the database? Also am running the latest 1470.
It looks like there was some TIDAL background activity in your Roon logs, but it seems to have subsided in the newest log. Are things still working sluggish for you? Yes, do let us know how the RAM test goes.
Removing and re-enabling the streaming services has had little to no effect. I have not yet had time to rule out a database issue, but I wonder if @Benjamin could analyze the database as it is now? Thank you everyone.
Thanks @Daniel . I just wiped my database, after allowing the Nucleus to re-aquaint itself with the locally-stored music and re-connecting Tidal and Qobuz services, the interface is functioning much faster and more fluid than ever before. This indicates the issue is with my database. Will upload database now to the new link above.
Thanks @Benjamin - database has been uploaded - I will not restore the nucleus until you’ve had a chance to analyze the database and report back. **The interface has been much snappier since wiping the database. Not as instantaneous as I’d expect from a local network interface and a blazing internet connection, but an 85% improvement. **
Just to set some realistic expectations, it may take some time for our team to test your database and report back any findings. Feel free to restore from your saved backup in the meantime so you can at least have access to your saved library and settings.
We’ll follow up with more information once our team has thoroughly tested the database, and thank you for your patience in the meantime!
Our team was able to thoroughly test out reproducing the slow performance using the database copy you sent over, but unfortunately were not successful in doing so.
How are things performing on the latest Roon update?
I apologize that we don’t have any immediate next steps for you.
Hi Ben-
It’s slower than ever. Took 45 seconds to open an album (via Tidal) last night. We never re-loaded the old database in hopes of seeing gains. At times, an album will load in as little as 5-7 seconds. But even that seems wrong. It doesn’t matter which remote we use (hardwired Mac, iOS devices, etc). And our internet connection is blazing. I can browse the tidal app with instant response time on my network (as the nucleus should be behaving).
