I am used to creating smart playlists that automatically populate based on comments entered into the song info and based on play counts. I don’t see anything like that here. Is there anything that works with the comments in the song file to create smart playlists?
Frankly I only see the option to list a bunch of songs together and that’s that. This falls very far short of my expectations
I’ve run into this before. One must choose between quality and convenience. I have come to be quite fond of the Apple Music iCloud Library. Despite its shortcomings it remains the ‘Excel’ of the music world with its vast database capabilities.
In Apple Music I create smart playlists based on comments. I guess the comments would be exactly the same as flags and that’s great, but one of the conditions for the smart list can be least often played (lowest play count) and then a limit set for how many songs can occupy the list based on the set conditions. This causes songs to rotate thru the list and helps bring everything to play. It’s still random and not like records but I hear everything like when I play records.
Without this, I am likely not ready for this service.
Yah. Roon introduced ‘smart’ playlists a while back but it is. It nearly as dynamic as Apple. I came from the Apple Music universe and definitely miss that functionality. I do hope at some point Roon enhances the smart playlists (I think they will)
I can tell you this though, Roon beats Apple in almost everything else. I’d never go back.
Agree, it might not be as flexible as the Apple smart playlist (long time since I used that), but you can also restrict on «played in the last» in Roon.
You can have the smart playlist only pull songs you haven’t played in the last x months, for example.
There is currently no way to restrict number of tracks in the playlist, that I know of.
