Smart Playlists Feedback [Now released]

The Smart Playlists feature is a good start. However, I feel that adding user tags into the equation would be a great addition. For example, one of my tags is ‘British Jazz’. It would be great to create a smart playlist of British jazz recorded in the 1960s or released on the Lansdowne label.

If I don’t misunderstand something, you already can:

Yes, you’re quite right. I missed that!

A smart playlist is dynamic, but once the dynamic playlist is added to the queue, the queue remains static.
For my use case, this is a bit disappointing.
What I try to do is this: I have created an SPL from albums that haven’t been played for more than six months. The result is a rather long list with all tracks from these albums. But when a track was played, all other tracks from this same album disappear from the SPL. This is good, because my intention is to simply play one track from every album that hasn’t been played for half a year, to listen to it in my car or on the train.
But although the SPL updates while playing tracks, the queue to which the playlist was added, remains the same. So in this queue, every track of each album that has a track that was already played, remains in the queue.
I want my queue to always match the contents of the SPL.

Smart playlists are great. Probably the last feature I missed from the iTunes player I migrated from a few years ago. Thanks very much for this - you have been kicking goals since the acquisition, it’s great to see.

Is it possible to create a smart playlist directly from a currently playing track, or do you have to go through multiple steps using a focus selection? I find the latter process quite time-consuming and not very intuitive for something meant to be 'smart.

I’m curious about how you envision the steps for this?

FWIW, ‘smart’ playlists are just a standard music software industry term for rules-based playlists that update automatically, as opposed to playlists that you manually manage…

I am on build 1470, and I do not see smart playlists if this is an old build I do not see an option to update. Any ideas?

Restart your Roon Server one or two more times. This happened a lot

Thank you, I will try that.

I only had to restart it once, thank you.

Look great. I just read today’s email and watched Michael’s well done video. However, I can’t find it. About Roon tells me I’m up to date on my Nucleus+ and MacBook Air remote. Has it been released to subscribers or still in limited distribution?

Looking forward,

Bruce

Restart Roon server once or twice, it only took me once.

Please add a slider control in the SPL selector panel.

Ditto this:

Blockquote How do we make make Playlists work for compositions - not for tracks (which break compositions up into pieces) and not for albums.

Two Things that im missing with the new SmartPlaylists:

  • The abbility to limit the Track-Count. Like “1 Hour” or “200 Tracks”.

Would be nice to be able to select the Profile of which the Profile-Bound Attributes like “Playcount” or “Last Date Played”. At the Moment each Profile sees an other Sort when a Smart Playlists is sorted by “Playcount” for example.

Edit:
Correction: That appears to be exactly the case. When I open a smart playlist sorted by play count with a different profile, the sorting remains the same, even if the play count for the currently active profile is different.
