[Solved in #274] RoonOS 3.0 Unable to access Internal Storage after update to RoonOS3.0

Hi all - updated to RoonOS 3.0, but despite being able to access \\Rock\Data using guest/guest:-

…the Storage folder is empty:-

I have an internal SSD which holds almost 2TB of music and the music is still all playable - I’m just unable to see it via Windows. I’m running 23h2 at the moment. Up until now I’ve just gone into \\Rock\Data\Storage\InternalStorage and all has been fine, but with 3.0, Windows tells me that InternalStorage doesn’t exist.

I can see it fine under ‘Library’ using Roon Remote latest early access, but not in Windows.

I tried dropping back to the production version and got this error:-

I’m aware this is probably something I’ve missed, so please be gentle!

Thanks for any help

Michael

EDIT - just to show how things look on the ROCK setup page:-

Moved from Uncategorized to Early Access

Thank you - I’d meant to post in Early Access but clearly failed miserably!

I’ve got the same issue - I have an internal SSD holding local music files and folders and although Roon can see and use it, Windows 11 File Explorer can’t (although it sees other files and folders in \\ROCK\Data

There was recently a forum configuration issue which caused the category choice menu to be invisible for most users (at “member” level and below) when opening a new topic. It led to lots of new topics landing in Uncategorized. It has been fixed but the issue may be sticky until the cache refreshes.

I’ll start looking into the issue with not being able to access internal storage through the Storage folder. @Michael_Curtis , feel free to create a support ticket so it’s tracked to completion. Technical Support Request

Same problems on my end. I cannot access my storage and I also get an error when I try to downgrade back to production.

Same here. My guess is that the mount point for the internal SSD (Shoud be “InternalStorage” has been messed up. The Data is still there, music plays

Also anoymous access is still possible although it shouldn’t.

Tech support request generated…

Also, I think I know what’s going on with the downgrade path and will look into a solution as well.

Another option to downgrade is using the RoonOS production USB installer and chose the “recover” install option. This reinstalls RoonOS 2.1(271) but keeps the database intact. Of course you need to connect a monitor and keyboard for this.

Thank you, Geoff.

Good point @Roland_von_Unruh about the recover install option, thanks as well.

For anybody that does a clean Roon OS v3.0 using the USB drive (not a v2.1 to v3 upgrade), the partition layout will not match the partition layout between v3 and v2.1. So using the recover from a v2.1 USB drive will not work as a way to downgrade from a clean v3 install.

In regards to the instructions for non-UEFI machines, I will make sure the request is received by others within Roon.

I wasn’t aware of a clean install option for RoonOS 3.0.

Where did you find a download link for the Installer image?

Good question, had to think about it for a second… The problem is that Roon OS v3 is only early access right now so there’s no generally available download link for EA releases. Once it promotes to general release there will be an image for clean installs available.

So am I understanding correctly that the current path is to download the current production installer image for ROCK, install with UEFI, change the track to Early Access, and then update to 3.0?

Yes, that is correct, an EA update is the current path. I would also suggest to use early access Roon / RoonServer. That’ll have any bug fixes fixes first if the issue is combined between Roon and Roon OS.

https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/roon-early-access-program#Roon_Early_Access_download_links and using the roon-earlyaccess.bin file.

Of course.

While my internal storage drive is not accessible via SMB from Windows, it is available to the RoonServer and can play music, etc.

However, the USB drive attached to my RoonServer is listed as “not available” in the Storage locations. And, obviously, the music contained on it is not available to the RoonServer.

@Rugby , we’ve tested attaching usb drives as many ways as we can think of. So I have no easy answer or way to reproduce it on my machine. Do you see an error in the logs? You may need to submit a ticket to see any kernel errors.
