It sounds like you are seeing the distinction here. But there are times when the ‘enhanced path’ is clearly desirable over the ‘bit perfect path’. If you do any digital signal attenuation, the path will become enhanced. You might do this to get volume leveling between tracks/albums that are mastered differently. One of the best (IMO) reasons to see enhanced path is use of DSP. Almost every room will have big frequency bumps and dips or other anomalies. Designing a convolution filter for Roon will give a much better frequency response. So even though it is no longer ‘bit perfect’ the sound is much closer to how it was recorded in terms of frequency response. That isn’t a bad tradeoff at all.
