Something like theater view?

There is a feature in jRiver that I really enjoyed and hope it is in ROON and I just don’t know where? Or I’d like to see it implemented.

The feature was called Theater View. Whe activated the view would switch to the track and artist then jRiver would stream photos of the artist(s) from the internet and display them on your monitor screen. If you had a large monitor or screen it looked awesome and it was fun when you had guests as they could see what’s played. It was very entertaining to see how the band or artist changed over the years.

So if there a function like thiis in Roon or could it be implemented?

Or maybe a trick to get jRiver to do this while using ROON?

Thanks!

There is a now playing view that’s really static and may I say boring right now. Displaying internet source pictures of the artist does sound very cool.

Yes. It’s a very cool feature. The Now Playong is very boring. With JR it’s very entertaining to watch the internet feed as the feed shows all ages of the entertainer. I really miss this feature. With a projector and big screen it’s awesome. Depending on the feed almost like having the band in your room.

Lots of threads asking for something like this, no reply from Roon on it which I cannot understand ?!?!

Let’s keep the thread going so the Gods of ROON will notice.

There’s a chance the Roon team would look at this as being at cross-purposes to their metadata oriented surfing. I.e. substanceless eye candy. But I hope not, because my friends and I have enjoyed various theater view-like experiences while listening to music over the years. We are all in our fifties so this isn’t just mindless “kids stuff.”

I’d like to see (1) the ability to map out our own display rather than have the specific areas and fields of information static to a Roon-specified layout, and (2) for Roon to, at least, integrate some bouncing light spectrum analyzer or VU meters, but what I’d really love would be some visualizer functions. I have overlaid my own visualizer in some of the dead space in the Roon display, but that only works so well…for one thing, if you click on the Roon interface it takes focus off the visualizer. So Roon could leave a transparent window for a visualizer or build their own.

I asked for this on a separate thread months ago.
For me the problem is having to have 2 remotes in my theater room - a tablet for room and my harmony for everything else. The great this about theater view is you can effectively navigate with 6 buttons. The on-screen entertainment of now playing is great too, but is secondary for me.

I think my ask is for a simple alternate UI that works well on a big screen controlled with a MCE remote with no keyboard. Because room keeps remotes in sync, if I want to grab my tablet to actively browse, I can. Or I can just use my harmony remote on the theater interface.

Glad to see there are others interested. It would be nice to get a stance from the folks at roon.

Come on guys. Let’s get this done. I’m not so concerned about controlling. I just want the internet feed that supplies a myriad of photos and other art.

I. Can see where the control portion would be good too.

VU meters yes! I have tried all these third party visualisers and none of them integrate with Roon :frowning:

VU meters would be a nice add-on.
