SonoreUPnP Bridge on SonicOrbiter 3.0

A new release of the SonoreUPnP Bridge running on SonicOrbiterOS 3.0

This allows Roon to stream a UPnP to feed directly to a UPnP Renderer, which in my case a Naim NDS network player, which is not RoonReady, as it’s design predated Roon by a year or so. And not enough onboard RAM to support a RoonReady application. The later Naim models introduced do. They have a different streamer board. The NDS has a bespoke design from BridgeCo. but very much designed and optimised for local file playback from a UPnP server source.
The later ones are off-the-shelf designs from Stream Unlimited. These has more onboard RAM, bigger buffer, later WiFi and Bluetooth. They support RoonReady, Tidal Max, Qobuz and now Presto integration.

The SonoreUPnP Bridge is a method of preserving the UPnP stream input the BridgeCo. board was optimized for, but within a Roon environment. Has worked well for me over the last 10 years.

Some revised settings of the revised operating platform.

The SonoreUPnP Bridge now needs a Max Sample Rate of 192KHz set, before it is correctly recognised in Roon.

And when there is Playback what is displayed in the Roon app and on the device

SonicOrbiter 3.0 also brings lots of new releases & capabilities, such as:

  • UPCD (ability to plug in a USB CD reader and stream the contents to a UPnP renderer) if you didn’t have a CD transport.
  • Bluetooth dongle support - plug in a dongle and use the device as a Roon zone with Bluetooth devices.
  • Add as a server, running files from its SD card as internal memory

But this method of bridge Roon to devices not able to be ‘Roon Ready’ is now running on the latest Sonore operating platform, and tested with Naim NDS network player.
