I’ve just stumbled onto this.
I also have a NUC 7i7 and have noticed my NUC’s fan has been going flat out which it never used too. I have 7 Sonos end points and yes if I reboot its very quiet but the second you play a Sonos device the fan screams. I have other none Sonos devices and they do not have this effect.
I have also noticed that from the last couple of updates I can no longer group Gen 1 and Gen 2 together it just says that Roon has lost control of the audio device

Thank you for the additional data point and my apologies for the long response time. What you observed seems to confirm our suspicions that this was related to Sonos devices. I will merge this topic into the tracking thread that you linked to ensure you will get notified about updates. While I cannot give an exact timeline I want to assure you that an investigation is in progress. We appreciate how patient you’ve been with the process.

Hi all, similar problem here, I restarted many times my Roon server, streaming to a Symfonisk Table Lamp, but sooner or later CPU get stuck on about 50%.
I will disable native Sonos streaming, switching to Airplay 2.

Please see the following thread. I received a response from Roon technical support. I am having the same problem, but it looks like I’ll just have to wait for a fix.

Sonos dropouts and high CPU utilization resolved (hopefully)

Hi all, I am posting this mostly for easy reference if others are experiencing similar issues. For quite a while, I’ve had two issues with Roon which I thought were unrelated. First, while most of my zones are Roon Ready devices, I have a pair of Sonos Play:1s in the living room, set up as a stereo pair. Setting the max. bit depth to 16 soved the problem for all my sonos devices.

Unfortunately, switching to 16 bits in the device setup does not bring any improvement in my case. As soon as the Sonos playback devices are activated, the CPU load still increases to more than 40%, the NUC heats up a lot and the fan turns up. As before, the only remedy is to restart the NUC and deactivate the Sonos streaming devices.
Normally and with other Roon endpoints, the CPU load is well below 10%.
Unfortunately, I haven’t heard anything from Roon Support for some time now.

I have found out today that my computer keep throttling after switching to 16 bits. So it doesn’t work for me as well.
