Describe the issue

I cannot find the Roon Arc sever using a Sony MW-WM1A M2. I use to run ARC in this DAP, was erratical before in the DAP but can run it relatively without problems in my iPhone 16 and my iPad M4. I realized that I uninstall the app while the app was in “offline mode”. Now when I install it, recognized my user (I have connection to Internet) but do not find the Roon server. Could it be that somehow as I uninstall the app while in offline mode, there are left some files in the device that do not allow it to find the server?

Describe your network setup

the Sony DAP connect to a WiFi, like the iPhone 16 or the iPad M4

Is the DAP on the same network as the Roon server? If so, why are you using Roon ARC versus the Roon App? Roon ARC is for use on Cellular devices outside of your servers home network not WiFi devices on your home network.

Hi @Claudio_Osorio,
Thanks for reaching out to us to ask about this issue. Are you having trouble connecting ARC to your server on your home network or while the DAP is on mobile data? As @bearFNF said ARC is designed to be used while away from your home network. Does your DAP have the Roon client app? It would just be called Roon.

If you’re using ARC outside your network and can’t connect can you share a screenshot of your Roon settings → ARC page and any error messages that show up?

Hi BearFNF,

Thanks, if I am at home I use Roon Remote in the DAP, that still works. But if I am in another place Holidays in Valencia or Tokyo or…and feel like using ARC, I connect to the hotel WiFi and then use ARC in the DAP and use wired headphones and ….(got the idea), or in the train to work, I tether the DAP with my XX.

Everythings works fine if I use ARN with my iPhone or iPad, but the DAP do not find the server, and I realized I deinstalled ARC while the app was “offline mode” and now when I reinstalled ARC in the DAP connects (I have WiFi access from the DAP) but can not find the sever, left any file in the DAP?

I was just wondering because while with not few issues I had ARC installed before and it fin the server and runs, just stop working after I unistalled it while being offline mode :frowning:

with Roon there is no issue, is OK and connects, is just the DAP and after I installed the app while in offline mode

Hi @Claudio_Osorio ,

It is very unlikley that uninstalling ARC while in offline mode has any impact, sine you are able to login it does sound like a connection is being made, but it’s just not finding the Roon Server. In Roon Settings → ARC, are there any error messages being displayed, or does everything look as expected there? Are you able to try installing the ARC APK instead of a regular install to see if that works?

Thanks a lot.
I installed the Roon ARC app you sent me.
I send you a plot-screen from the Roon ARC screen, and the iPhone, iPad connected and the Sony DAP “looking” for the server.
I am in my local network (iPad & Sony) and the handy throught 5G.

Hi @Claudio_Osorio,
Just checking if you tried the APK version of ARC as @noris suggested. It wasn’t clear from your last message. Let us know how it went or if you need help with the installation.

Hi Daniel, Thanks, yes, I try. actually the picture is the new installation after the request and still the same.
What is crazy, that ARC worked no so fine but it worked, it connect to the server. I uninstalled it (while offline the app) and since then…
the DAP has connection because it connects and recognized my license, but can not find these server. ARC works because iPhone and iPad connects, as you can see in the picture, iPhone and iPad connected (iPhone via 5G-cell and iPad via wi-fi at my friends place) no home.
the picture of the ARC screen in Roon is when I return the same dy to my place

Hi @Claudio_Osorio ,

Thanks for that information. I wonder if cleaning the data for the Roon app on the device and then reinstalling it will have any change in behavior?

Hi Noris, thanks a lot

What do you mean by “cleaning the data for the Roon app on the device”?
That is what I thought, did ARC left some files after Uninstalled in the DAP, how can I delete what could have been left.
I uninstall the app several times in the DAP, reinstall it and always the same.
the DAP in the Roon Server appear an disappears on demand when the DAP runs Roon remote or not.

Hi @Claudio_Osorio,

Here are some additional steps to help clear all data that you can try:

Step 1: From your home screen, go to Settings on your Android device.

Step 2: Scroll down and select Apps.

Step 3: Find the app that you are looking to uninstall and select it.

Step 4: Tap on Storage.

Step 5: Tap on Clear Data.

Step 6: Click OK on the “All data deletion” warning.

Step 7: Tap on the Uninstall Button and click OK on the “Do you want to uninstall” message.

Let us know if this changes any of the behavior, thank you! :raised_hands:

Thanks a lot Benjamin, maybe I should have installed it this way the first time, now with so many install-uninstall I have non idea was is left in the DAP, I should reinstall Android in the DAP.
Point is it did not work. I not just did what you propose but the same proposal with Roon Remote in the DAP, and combinations, but do not work.
the only thing that works in the DAP is Roon Remote, so I can use Roon in the DAP just if I am in my LAN, but thanks for so much proposals.

Hi @Claudio_Osorio,

Thank you for your response. From what we can tell in diagnostics, the DAP won’t connect to RoonServer because the HTTP responses between the ARC framework and RoonServer aren’t interpreted correctly by either machine. This can have a number of causes, but the root issue is either the root certificate or SSL handling in the Sony custom Android stack.

In plain terms, this means that there’s no straightforward workaround without a firmware update to the DAP itself.

The custom Android implementation in many DAPs can cause ARC to fail as cloud authentication processes change over time - this requires updates on the part of the DAP firmware to ensure the most recent WebView compatibility. Sometimes, we can resolve these issues with point-and-shoot fixes for ARC.

We will investigate whether it’s possible to create a workaround for this particular failure in a future release for ARC. This effort might require some time. In the meantime, some steps you can take:

  1. The date and time in the DAP is significantly different from what RoonServer expects (this will cause authentication to fail for security reasons). I recommend checking the Time/Date settings in the Sony DAP and verifying “automatic time zone” is enabled if available.

  2. Reach out to Sony’s support team for this DAP outlining the issue.

  3. Use the DAP as an output/endpoint in combination with a phone that runs ARC.

Thank you!
