Squelching noise

Pi4B+Hifiberry DAC2HD+Ropieee sometimes makes quiet squelching noises, like processing breaking through into the audio. Only in very quiet classical music but annoying.

I thought I’d cured it by switching to fixed volume in Roon but it’s back again. Any ideas?

I cured it by going into device setup, switching from Fixed volume to Device volume and saving. Then going straight back in to Device setup and switching back to fixed volume. Perfect sound with OLED-like black background again. So relieved.
