I’m super new to Roon so haven’t figured out which exact search words I need to answer these questions. I’m hoping this post will do the trick.
I’ve bought a suitable NUC and an additional internal SSD on which I’d like to store my flac files. I can’t find anything in the ROCK setup guide about how to format the second drive to do this (I’ve been in the Apple ecosystem for years so it’s not obvious to me).
A related issue is how to organise the files once they’re on the drive. I’ve used dBpoweramp to rip my CD collection and it has organised everything in a folder on my desktop called “flac music” thusly: Album Artist\Album\TrackNum. Should I just copy this entire folder as is to the drive and tell Roon to find my music there? There seem to be quite a few differing opinions on what’s the best way to organise files in these forums but they all seem predicated on the user’s past decisions. I have the opportunity to set it up in whatever way Roon works best but I’ve not really found an answer to that yet.
Any help will be very much appreciated I assure you.
You do it from the web interface http://rock.local should get you there. Sorry my rock on this machine has no internal music drive but there should be a storage option shown for your interface.
When you copy the files stop the roon server from the same web interface or the system will get bogged down with scanning every time a file copy completes.
The format of the folders will be fine. Try some first then see what happens when you start the roon server again.
A large copy will take some time…you need to use SMB connections, then the scanning will also take a long time too…best to finish the copy, start the server again then go to bed while it scans and imports all the music.
