I listen mostly to contemporary classical music. Before adding Qobuz and Roon, I would go to Presto Classical to search for works. I could enter a single track on an album, plus the composer, and usually get the hit.
Not so with Qobuz or Roon. Google said to search with Roon due to the extensive meta tags.
I heard a piece on one of the contemporary classical shows and wanted to hear it again. So I went to google to find the name of the album from which it came. I entered the album name and the composer (all works on the album were by the same composer). Failure.
This is one of so many others, and also I see other threads have reported search problems in 2019 and 2023. Here is how I finally found it.
Album name: Colors, composer Daniel Temkin (published 2023). When ācolors daniel temkinā did not work, I asked google AI, and it said to try and enter one of the performers then go to their discography and search for the album (by this time I had the cover art). This worked, for the second (of six) listed performer. That google AI knew about this issue is telling as well.
This round-about way should not be necessary for a paid music service. Searching for ācolors, temkinā should work; those are the only two title-sized text fields on the album cover, with SIX composers listed, on the composerās website.
This is one of so many examples; itās very frustrating, especially since Presto Music (and google search too) illustrates it can be done.
Thanks Geoff, but then why was I able to find it, eventually, using one of the performersā names?
I thought Roon had its own database, albeit based on Qobuzā database. That I was able to find it eventually tells me itās somewhere in the Qobuz database.
So maybe you are suggesting I need to address this feedback to Qobuz?
Roon sources its metadata from the streaming providers and from Musicbrainz and Tivo. It doesnāt conjure up missing metadata. It looks as though Qobuz (and/or Tivo) has not got the full metadata possible for the album - probably because the label hasnāt bothered to provide it, so I would report it to Qobuz in the first instanceā¦
The Meta data Roon uses does not list Daniel Temkin as a composer or performer. It lists the album, as it is on Qobuz, as Various Artists.
This is why adding Temkin in the search query was causing a miss. If you search Various Artists Colors, then you would see track from the album appear on search.
I agree that is not easy or intuitive for smaller classical (and other genre) artists. When I donāt find it on Roon, then I always check on Qobuz (service Iām using) to make sure they have it. And then if I find it there I add it to Qobuz favorites which will then sync up and be added to my Roon library.
