Streaming is unstable on Nucleus One - Windows 11 crashes when clicking on TIDAL mix

Repro steps:

  • Open Roon on Windows 11
  • Navigate to TIDAL → WHAT’S NEW.
  • Under “Mixes for you” I click on “My Mix 1”
  • Roon abruptly closes

I went to C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Roon\Logs and found the exception below.

It happens to me too, but i’ll specify that it happens only when I click this play button here circled in red:

I can still click on the mix without clicking that centered play button and this makes the Tidal Mix open normally and after it’s opened, I can click the Play Now button in the upper right of the page and it starts playing it normally

Also locks up android client, when i press a tidal mix nothing works anymore, not even scrolling…

I have the same problem, crash after clicking this button. Mobile devices freeze and the app stops responding. In W10 you can click on the mix picture and select and play from the opened list of songs.

This whole problem is so ridiculous, I hate having bought roon once because it prevents me from simply listening to music so many times that I can’t count it anymore.

I don’t expect a meaningful answer because I have to explain all the details of my entire setup first and I’m no longer willing to waste time on such a conversation without a solution.

Since this company was sold, it’s gotten worse and I expected that. In the beginning, Roon was cool, now it’s really just annoying overall.

When I can, I now always listen to Tidal directly, it just always works reliably, ok no more shared zones, but I’m happy to do without that if I can at least listen to music again undisturbed by a “software”.

Same issue also.

This is happening to me also on Android.
I have to kill the app and try again.

Getting very frustrated trying to explain to my family how to deal with all the lockups and that’s not how I want to spend my time.

Roon must work with the advanced clients personally to diagnosis and resolve that issues.

Most people with these problems seem to be very capable, Roon needs to leverage these installations and do real live support and improvements.

In 30 days of working very closely with it’s customers the next release could be extremely powerful improvement for their sales and marketing team, and it’s customers.

Roon also needs to remember that only a few frustrated customers are willing to take time away from real life issues to post these complaints, including providing massive details. It’s not just 3 or 4 people struggling, we are just the ones putting in the massive effort to communicate and try to help.

Please please please Roon. Reach out and communicate human to human (not email) to quickly do what is necessary to keep your customers. If you don’t we will keep looking for some solution that does, IMHO.

First, I have an ORBI wifi system, fed by fiber optic, that is ROCK SOLID. Nobody in my house including my intensely gaming 17-year old complains about network stability or speed. My Nucleus One is streaming to four audio devices: ADAM, KEF and DEVIALET. All these devices are connected via ROON READY.

REPRO STEPS

  • Search for an artist from TIDAL - let’s say Bahama Soul Club
  • Click “Start Radio”.
  • LISTEN!!!

Roon has exhibited the following behaviors:

  • It will skip from track to track in a very NOT-smooth fashion even though I have cross-fade configured.
  • It will being to STAGGER streaming to different devices in a group, creating a clearly out-of-sync audible delay from one device to another. I have to stop and start playing to correct it.
  • It will simply stop streaming. Everything goes quiet. I have to open the app and hit “Play” again.

For periods of time - an hour or more? - Roon will exhibit the problems above every several minutes!!

I broke away from Sonos because I came to despise their app, and their hardware garden walls. I’m never going back to proprietary hardware. But, now I have to sell my household on Roon. That effort is not going well at the moment.

Hi, @Kevin_MacDonald

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve hit a snag, if you require help from the support team, please open a support request in the Support category of the forum and fill out the issue report template with as much detail as possible. That will help Tech Support get you up and running again.

Note, the Support link is clickable and will take you to the correct place to create your request by clicking on the “Get Help” button.

Thank you.

Hello Geoff,

My previous post to this one was a quite detailed bug report including a stack trace from Roon server logs on Windows.

I’ve heard no response from Roon on that one. Am I filing bugs incorrectly?

You posted it in the Roon Software Discussion category of the forum, which is not monitored by the support team. As I say, if you want support form them, use the Support category, and click on the big “Get Help” button. This will take you through the process of supplying all the detail that the team need to help you best.

Is the Nucleus One wired to the router? If not that is likely at least part of the issue. Roon can have intermittent issues on the best of wireless networks.

Hi guys,

A quick note to advise that Roon staff do not routinely monitor this section of the forum.

If you wish to leave comments for Roon’s product team that steers their business, you should post in Feedback or Feature Suggestions as appropriate.

Yes, the Nucleus One is hardwired directly to the Orbi router. There’s not even a switch in between.

For simple back to back comparison, while I specifically moved away from Sonos for other reasons, that system is far more stable on my network than Roon currently is.

If you want, I can repeat my steps above, and try to tail logs on the Nucleus One and see if anything shows up there when a glitch happens. But I would need detailed information on where the logs are on the Nucleus One. I’m more of a Windows guy, but I can generally figure out linux.

Is this Orbi Router directly wired to the modem or is it downstream with a backhaul? I’m asking the question I’ve seen on this forum from others.

The Orbi router is hardwired to our CenturyLink modem.

One of two Orbi satellites is hardwired back to the router. I believe that fits the definition of backhaul, is that right?

The second Orbi satellites operates on wifi only.

And as stated, the Nucleus One is hardwired directly into the back of the router.

All of the four devices that Roon streams to are wifi-enabled. One of those - a pair of KEF speakers, is hardwired to the network via a switch. That switch is in turn hardwired to the Router. Everything comes off the Orbi router. Nothing goes from any point on our network back to the CenturyLink modem.

I’m going to call this issue RESOLVED.

I did more reboots of everything. I purged the image cache of the Roon server And, I uninstalled a potentially troublesome 3rd party app I was using to try to capture a music stream from Chrome and send it out of Roon via a custom radio station (I thought it was completely out of the picture when using TIDAL, but maybe not?).

Anyway, Roon seems much more stable now. If my troubles return I will open a topic in the Support or Feedback areas.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, after more testing today, my issue is not resolved. I’ll open a topic under Support.
