I have an AppleTV 4K A1842. I’m having trouble setting it up through Roon. Roon takes the code that the ATV generates, and the device is then listed under my endpoints (although it says Roon Tested, not Roon Ready) but once I play the music, the streaming won’t start and the ATV generates another code. Any suggestions and can you confirm what resolution my ATV unit is outputting to my DAC. Apple support seems to agree that there should be a good connection because Roon is asking for a code and the ATV unit is generating a code.
Hi Andrew,
I got it to work. You probably did the same, but here is how I did it in detail.
On Apple TV, in settings, select Airplay and Homekit. Then Airplay On, Allow Access to Same Network. Then Require Password to On. The Apple TV should give you a password below Password On.
In Roon > Settings > Audio, select Apple TV under Roon Tested. Click Enable and enter the password from the ATV. Then press enter. If Roon accepts the password, it should enable.
Select the Apple TV zone and it should play.
This is what the Signal Path shows when I stream via ATV.
This worked perfectly. I mistakenly had ATV set to “don’t require password” thinking that would be less restrictive. Thank you so much, Greg.
In a nutshell, can some kind soul tell me how my ATV sound quality compares to a native Roon endpoint? If I’m reading my streaming details correctly, my PS Audio DSJ is RAAT, my MacBook is RAAT but the Apple TV just says “…describes the hardware and streaming technology used to render…” and has a green dot.
Am I limited to 44.1/16bit with AppleTV, or is it lower?
Nearly my entire collection is ripped CD’s and I listen to radio that’s sometimes even .mp3 but I also subscribe to Tidal and Qobuz from time to time. As I consider other additions to my system, it would be nice to know what ATV is capable of.
Many thanks…
