Description Of Issue

My Roon is setup on my Synology server. I am leaving for six months and want to copy the system to my Mac so I can use it where I will be. But I am not sure what to copy and how to do it without destroying the core on my NAS. I am sure it i simply but I have looked at FAQ s and not seen it spell4ed out

Hi @Michael_Specter,

Our Migration Guide should get you on the right path. Generally, you’ll need to make a backup, restore the backup on the new machine, and then configure your devices and storage on the new device. If you have any questions about the guide please let me know!

And you can have Roon installed on both machines simultaneously. When you use the 2nd instance of Roon, it will simply ask you if you want to use it instead of the 1st instance. It’s simple to switch back and forth between two or more Roon cores.

This is what I dont get. I have Roon on my Macbook now. But the core is my Nas. I am not sure what to download to get a core on the laptop

Hi @Michael_Specter,

If you already have Roon installed on the Mac you can go to Settings > General > Disconnect. This will disconnect from the NAS Core.

You can then choose “This Mac” from the Core selection screen, which will enable the Mac to be used as the Core.

thank you so much. it should have been obvious but i am think. i live half the year in upstate NY and teach at Stanford the other half. Hard to live without Roon.

Hi @Michael_Specter — No worries, I’m happy I was able to help! Please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or issues. Happy listening :headphones:
