Roon backup size increases suddenly

Roon backing up to Dropbox

Hey @Benet_Northcote,

Thanks for taking the time to write in and share your report!

Based on your screenshot, the issue isn’t related to Roon, but rather Dropbox itself. It appears you’ve run out of available space from Dropbox.

Are you able to create a backup elsewhere, not via Dropbox? Ideally setting up a local backup to an external device or to a Mac/Windows computer is an easy way to keep additional backups without worrying about available space.

Let me know if this is at all possible and if you have any additional questions. :+1:

Thanks Benjamin. Appreciate your time.

You are right, the drive is full, however the problem is that only two backups are taking over 2gb of space. It runs fine for months and then suddenly fails like this. I had a previous ticket (ref#34B6P6) that covered this and I think either you or Daniel suggested I come back if the problem came up again. Worth saying there’s nothing else on the Dropbox, so there should be 2gb easily.

I’m also backing up to a USB that’s attached to my ROCK.

Do you know what size the back up should be?

Thank you!

Hi @Benet_Northcote ,

If you try to save a manual backup to a new location on the USB, what is the size of that backup? The backup size can vary on a number of factors, but a library of your size shouldn’t be too big. I would also suggest checking Dropbox deleted folder, maybe those still count towards the quota?

How many tracks/albums are in your library? As ref point my db is 5.5gb and I have 2329 albums about 33k tracks.

I use a local drive, allocated 250 GB. And Roon ran out of space. I’d like to have more faith that the incremental backup is working. The Roon Server Folder is 163GB - I’m baffled at what data ROON is storing that takes up this much space. While my library is large (150k tracks), 1gb per 1k tracks? That’s crazy.

Apologies for the slow reply @noris.

So, I deleted the backups on Dropbox and forced a back up again. The first came in at 850Mb and, now, with two backups it is showing a reasonable 1.22GB (which still seems large, considering the data that you need to store - e.g. playlists, 440 albums, 7000 tracks and history playlist of ~30,000 items).

So, not sure why it decides to suddenly balloon to over 2GB for two backups?

Will keep watching it.
