It would be amazing if Roon could allow us to save the tags it identifies directly to our music files. Recently, I’ve tried several tagging software options, both with and without audio fingerprinting, and I’ve realized that Roon’s tagging accuracy is truly exceptional.
So why not make it possible to save these tags directly to our files without needing third-party software? After all, it wouldn’t require a huge code overhaul since Roon is already identifying and displaying this metadata.
Personally Roon gets enough wrong, I don’t want it touching my files at all other than read only thanks. Other tools do a better job of this and have much better ui for editing.

If You use the export function Roon will include the tags.
I find the fact that Roon leaves my files alone a POSITIVE feature.
I subscribed to Audirvana studio when it first came out , it scanned my library and added a MusicBrainzID to EVERY files , luckily I could restore a BU. They later made it optional.
I spend many happy hours getting metadata correct without any help !! Have you seen how often Roon updates stuff in the bckground , esp artwork ?
Guys, I’ve tried about ten different software solutions for managing my music library, but they’re all either too cumbersome, don’t do their job properly, or frequently misidentify albums. I’ve tested both fingerprint-based identification and other methods, but the results haven’t improved. It’s been quite frustrating.
With Roon, on the other hand, I haven’t encountered these issues. It consistently recognizes albums correctly. I imagine it uses a different set of algorithms that seem to work really well. That’s why I was wondering if Roon could enable a feature (maybe with a dedicated button) to allow these algorithms to be used on other platforms too. It would be an amazing feature for those who need it!
But it doesnt all the time at all. I have had to force Roon many times to choose the correct version. It might might look on the surface to be correct, but a lot of the times it isn’t. It constantly adds wrong mixes of tracks for remasters which I had to manually alter all of them. Metadata in my files is correct Roon decideds to show something different as its services say something else.
Alright, since many of you seem to think that Roon Labs isn’t great—or worse—when it comes to tagging, let’s see what alternatives are out there: recommend a software that truly works without just wasting time. Keep in mind, I have 2 TB of music, so I can’t afford to edit tags one by one and need to be able to trust the tagging software to do its job effectively. I’m really hoping for a good recommendation, but I’ve already tried ten different programs, and they all fall short.
Have you tried SongKong yet, you can run in Lite mode to see what results you get, although in Lite mode this doesnt actually modify the files so you’ll only see the changes in the SongKong report and not in Roon. if you have tried it but don’t seemed to get the results you hoped for please run Create Support Files and I will take a look at the results, in normal circumstances should get at least 80% matched even if they are classical, obscure ectera.
