Summary of issues related to using a single license at two different physical locations

I am hoping you can help me understand what, if any, issues I will run into when using my roon software at two different locations and a single license.

I am aware that I will have to deauthorize one system when I fire up the other and hope that will not be a problem. The systems are on totally different machines. They contain the same media, but on different drive paths and I’m not sure the files are exactly duplicated on each system, but they are close. I don’t want to stream from my home system, although I understand that is now possible.

Will backing up roon on one system affect the other?
Can each system have its own roon backup?
Can different playlists be created at each location?
In general, I am trying to find out what problems I may run into in doing this. What things I should do to prevent problems etc.

Thank you in advance for your assistance. I am fairly new to roon after many years of using Jriver. So far, I find roon to be a much more elegant interface. Much easier to configure and with much more flexibility in using various endpoints.

Only two issues I think. First of all, you can’t use Roon Arc from the unauthorized server. You have said that won’t matter to you.

The other issue is keeping the two in sync, if that’s important. Tidal and/or Qobuz will stay in sync but your local library and any edits you do will require a manual effort if you want them sync’d.

Basically you can backup one and restore to the other. You would need to do the same with local music files.

  1. Each system is essentially independent.

  2. Each can have their own backup.

  3. Yes, different playlists can be created.on Each server. And each server can have different music files.

Outstanding! This is going to be easier than I thought. I don’t mind doing individual work on both databases. Having each system independent is exactly what I was hoping for in my case. I have spent a good bit of time today researching these issues and was hoping to gain the experience of more seasoned users.

I tried roon over a year ago and left the platform due to cost, retired now and on a fixed income as they say. However, quality music is one of my main interests and am giving roon a second go. Although I am a seasoned Jriver user, I find roon to be much more practical and easier to use in a major way. I find the ‘automation’ of finding endpoints particularly useful. Not to mention the rich content that roon provides.

Thank you for the quick replies!
