I’m trying to understand why my ChromeCast is downsampling to 48khz.

I interpret from your post that this wasn’t happening to you. If so, did you have to change anything in setup. I didn’t see anything is setup to change.

I have a Gen 2 and according to the audio specs the signal shouldn’t be getting downsampled.

Chromecast Audio specifications

Supported Audio Formats:

  • FLAC with support for high-resolution streams (24-bit/96KHz)

  • Output:

    • Stereo analog output [2Vrms]
    • Optical digital output
    • High-Resolution Audio: 96KHz/24-bit

I’m confused by your post as to what you actually own, a Chromecast Gen 2 OR a “Chromecast Audio” which are two separate devices. The specifications you posted are for the Chromecast Audio device.
