Ok let’s say it’s clear I will go for wd red 12tb

What about m.2 for Roon DB? Any recommendation? 56k files around 7,5TB

Samsung EVO 970 is quite popular (or the newer 980, as the 970 is discontinued). Note:

  • Don’t get the QVO model as it as a lower TBW value, i.e., it doesn’t deal as well with frequent writes. (While QVO is OK for the secondary SATA music drive)
  • The PRO model is a bit more expensive and I don’t think it’s worth it: The TBW is the same as the EVO, it’s just that it has 5 years warranty instead of 3. And the speed difference to the EVO is small and likely not worth it, as the database is loaded into RAM, anyway.

As for size, 256 GB are much more than enough but may be difficult to get. 512 gives you even more spare cells and higher TBW, so thats a fine choice. (Warrantied TBW: 150 TBW for 250GB model, 300 TBW for 500GB model)

Ok so that one is enough ?

Samsung 980 M.2 PCIe NVMe 500GB

It’s cheap around 60 usd so not much

Samsung dropped the EVO/QVO monikers after the 970, but the 980 uses TLC memory just like the 970 EVO, and they give the same TBW values for the 970 EVO and the 980, so it should be equivalent in practice.

So summary … Samsung 980 500GB M.2 (MZ-V8V500BW) it’s totally fine ?

It is a good choice if you want a 500GByte SSD.

However, there is an even cheaper Samsung 980 M.2 PCIe NVMe 250GB available which is cheaper and will also be perfectly adequate.

250GBytes is more than enough to hold the Roon Database. Indeed, on ROCK systems, it is sufficient to hold the Database, the RoonOS, and the Roon Server application.

Over here at Amazon Germany, the 500 costs just 1.5 Euros more than the 250, and it pays for 150 additional TBW

Same here it’s like 8 usd 250 vs 500

Ok so ….
Samsung 980 m2. 500gb as heart
Wd red plus 2x12tb for raid 1

Around 8tb data 60.000 songs

Last question … 16gb ram or 2x16gb? Any recommendation for ram ?

According to …

… with 100k tracks it should be 8 GB just for Roon, in addition to what the operating system and other services need for themselves.

So let’s say 2x8GB more then enough, any recommendation for ram ?

The type Synology recommends for your NAS, from an established company like Samsung, etc. (There are only three-or-so RAM manufacturers in the world, all the others are essentially branding).

Is there maybe a list if it’s compatible or something ?

https://www.google.com/search?q=synology+ds923%2B+memory+upgrade

So summary … instead of going into ds923+ I just bought ds723+ with two bays … why? I will put one 16tb into it and 2nd one into external case and just one time per 2-3 months ~~ connect into laptop and do backup of NAS.
So I will have 1x 16tb into NAS and 1x 16tb into external case do to backup of NAS

Hdd that I choose
Toshiba MG Enterprise 16TB MG08ACA16TE why not WD? This one is same price as 12tb wd red plus and have 60 months guarantee

Memory:
Kingston Server Premier, DDR4, 16 GB, 2666 MHz, CL19 (KSM26SED8/16HD)

M2 hdd:
Samsung 980 500 GB M.2 PCI-E 2280 x4 Gen3

Thanks all for help

Synology DS918+ sound way better then any other models out there
I compare AMD to Intel and I dont recommend AMD at all
Go with DS918+ and you will thank me

Same for me…
For everybody with the question if DS723+ is powerfull enough for the use with roonOnNAS:
My DS723+ with 2 HDD and 1 SDD for Roon (shared with a Win11 VM) and 16 GB RAM works without any issues. Using the VM while listening to roon on up to 3 zones works fine. The RAM and the CPU are never at upper limit.
