Synology AFP vs SMB

I am installing Roon for the first time on my Synology.
the address is afp// not smb//
before I start…
what is the difference between these?
does this matter?
do I have to change it?
if so, how?
thx

Hi Skolis,
afp and smb are both network protocols.
Could you explain in what context you are talking about the afp and smb “addresses”?

If you are referring to the instructions on the download page:

The location of the music files on your NAS normally would look like:

\nas-name\share-name
or

smb://nas-name/share-name

Then you can ignore the fact that you are using afp. This section is about pointing Roon locally to your music files that reside on your synology as well. So in the end neither smb nor afp will be involved.
