System Output and Roon ARC issues post Roon Server 2.71 crash-loop on Z1 (ref#CKTUKI)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· Subject: Multiple zone/connectivity issues after Roon Server 2.71 crash-loop on Silent Angel Z1 (reinstalled + restored from backup)

Hardware: Silent Angel Rhein Z1, VitOS 1.2.4397
Roon Server version (currently installed): 2.66, Build 1658
Roon ARC app version: 1.81, Build 425

What happened, in order:
1. Roon Server on my Z1 began crashing shortly after starting (it would show 'Running' for a few minutes, then silently stop) starting around August 19-20, 2026. This matches other reports of the Roon Server 2.71 compatibility issue on Silent Angel Z1/Z1C/Z1 Plus devices.
2. Following Silent Angel's recommended workaround, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Roon Server package via VitOS Manager.
3. After reinstalling, Roon Server stayed running, but playback did not work — pressing play would toggle the button state with no audio.
4. I restored an older Roon backup (library/settings only) to rule out database corruption. Library and playlists now load correctly.

Current open issues:

A) 'System Output' zones stuck permanently in 'Enabling...'
Both my MacBook Pro's built-in speakers (CoreAudio) and my iPad's built-in speakers get stuck indefinitely on 'Enabling...' and never activate. Pressing play toggles the play/pause icon but produces no sound. I've confirmed:
- Basic audio playback works normally on both devices outside of Roon (system sounds, other apps)
- Volume/output device selection is correct in each device's own settings
- Roon has Local Network permission granted on both devices
- Restarting Roon (app and full device restart), restarting macOS's coreaudiod service, and disabling/re-enabling the zone did not resolve it

Notably, my Devialet Expert 140 Pro, connected via Ethernet as a native Roon Ready zone, works perfectly — audio plays correctly through it. This suggests the issue is specific to how the Core handles Remote-app-hosted 'System Output' zones versus native Roon Ready hardware endpoints, rather than a problem with the Mac or iPad themselves.

B) Roon ARC cannot connect to the Core
In Roon ARC on my iPhone, the remote-access setup screen shows 'Ready — Roon ARC can securely access your Roon Server' with a confirmed listening port. However, when I disable Offline Mode, Roon ARC reports 'Roon Server offline' and fails to connect, even though the Core is confirmed online (I'm actively playing music through the Devialet zone at the same time). I've confirmed I'm signed into Roon ARC with the correct account email.

What I'm hoping for:
Given that native Roon Ready playback (Devialet) works correctly, but both Remote-app System Output zones and Roon ARC connectivity are failing, I suspect this is related to the Core's state after the 2.71 crash / reinstall / backup-restore process rather than a device-specific issue on my end. I'd appreciate help diagnosing whether the Core needs a further repair/reset beyond the package reinstall I already performed, or whether this is a known issue tied to the recent Roon Server version rollback on Silent Angel Z1 hardware.

Separately: is it possible to get an installer for Roon Server 2.70 specifically for the Z1? That was the last version I know to have worked reliably on this hardware before the 2.71 issue began, and I'd like the option to roll back to it if these zone/app issues turn out to be tied to the 2.66 build currently installed.

Happy to provide additional logs, screenshots, or a screen share if useful.

Thank you!

Hi @Rbt_Davis,

Thanks for writing in!

The thread @BlackJack shared above is likely the answer to your current issues.

This is something you’ll likely want to get in touch with Silent Angel directly for.

This is not something we’re able to offer at this time. It may be worth asking Silent Angel if they can potentially serve you an older Roon version, but it’s unfortunately not something available on our end.
